Emotionally Impaired Elementary School Teacher
Position:
Special Education (Emotional Impairment) Teacher - FTE 1.0
The successful candidate for this position will be an honest, approachable communicator, who is student-centered in his or her approach to classroom instruction. Demonstrated success in establishing a positive teaching and learning climate, an eagerness to authentically engage students, the ability to establish standards for student accountability, and a proven track record in establishing high expectations for achievement are among the attributes the successful candidate shall possess.
Additional core competencies would include exceptional planning, decision and problem-solving skills, initiative and persistence, dependability, enthusiasm, and an individual that can work with others in a multidisciplinary team environment.
Specific qualifications include:
- Valid Michigan teaching certificate with an Emotional Impairment Endorsement (SE).
- Highly qualified according to NCLB standards in at least one core content area.
- The ability to implement and monitor IEP's and Behavior Intervention Plans.
- Experience and/or knowledge in conducting Functional Behavior Assessments.
- The ability to develop trusting relationships, and manage multiple priorities while meeting deadlines.
- The ability to assist other team members in building a positive culture for learning, while raising the standards of student growth.
- Knowledge and/or understanding in consistent use of data to monitor student growth, inform instruction and develop interventions.
- Experience and/or knowledge of Common Core Standards, Positive Behavioral Intervention and Support Systems, Technology Integration, and individualized programming options for students.
- Superior communication skills in writing and speaking with all levels of administration and staff.
- Applicants must be able to show proof of a satisfactory criminal background check as defined by state standards.
Responsibilities include:
- Accepting responsibility for the successful implementation of the school's education and behavior program and for the achievement success of students.
- Creating, monitoring and maintaining compliance with Individual Education Programs (IEP's) and Behavioral Intervention Plans.
- Providing the most favorable learning environment for students with special needs using tools such as ongoing observation and behavior intervention planning.
- Accepting responsibility for keeping files and program activities in compliance with State and Federal special education laws and regulations.
- Demonstrating genuine concern for students in a climate characterized by high personal and student expectations.
- Helping support a school culture based on the principles of firm, fair and consistent practices and respect for individual students.
- Using technology effectively for data driven instruction, communication, record keeping and other administrative tasks.
- Maintaining open and frequent communication with building supervisor.
- Supervising and evaluating classroom paraprofessional staff in accordance with the building's policies.
- Other duties as assigned by the building supervisor.
