Shipping and Receiving Clerk

Job Responsibilities

• Compares identifying information and counts, weighs or measures items outgoing or incoming shipments to verify information against bills of lading, invoices, packing slips, address labels and other records.
• Unpacks and examines incoming shipments, rejects damaged items, records shortages and corresponds with shipper to rectify damages and shortages.
• Routes incoming items to correct departments.
• Packages items in appropriate containers and affixes labels and shipping instructions onto containers.
• Examines outgoing shipments to ensure shipments meet specifications.
• Maintains inventory of shipping materials and supplies.
• Operates equipment to move, convey, or hoist shipments between shipping/receiving area and storage or work areas.
• Coordinates with carriers to schedule pick‑ups and deliveries.
• Ensures timely dispatch of all outgoing shipments.
• Follows all safety procedures and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment; uses personal protective equipment (PPE) as required and reports any safety hazards or equipment malfunctions to the supervisor.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Good organizational and time‑management skills.
• Ability to follow instructions and work independently or as part of a team.
• Basic math and computer skills.

• High School Diploma or equivalent education and experience.

• Previous experience in shipping, receiving, or a warehouse environment preferred but not required.
• Familiarity with shipping and receiving procedures and equipment is a plus.

• Some physical demand; often lifts light to heavy‑weight material, frequent lifting/moving average weight (up to 50 lbs / 11–27 kgs) of material.
• Ability to perform occasional to frequent pushing, pulling, bending, kneeling, twisting, crawling and/or reaching over a full work shift (8–12 hours).
• Ability to operate motorized vehicles over a full work shift (8–12 hours).
• Ability to stand and/or walk constantly over a full work shift on concrete (8–12 hours).
• May be exposed to noise levels for which hearing protection is required to be worn over a full work shift (8–12 hours).
