School Psychologist

To provide comprehensive services for all students for early identification, support and communication with building leadership.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Provide consultation to teachers & administrators regarding the educational, social, and emotional adjustment problems to classroom climates and teaching approaches being used.

Assist the school district in following appropriate referral procedures to request the psychological evaluation of the child.

The school psychologist will provide psychological evaluations of students referred for such services, as well as, develop a core battery of tests and adapt this battery to each specific child's individual needs.

The candidate must be able to meet federal and state deadlines for the completion of evaluations and all related paperwork.

Prepare and submit summary reports of results of the psychological evaluation in a manner and style that can be understood by parents and teachers of the child, with the help of interpretation and explanation of the psychologist when necessary.

Participate in the development of Individual Education Programs for children when indicated and ensure least restrictive programming.

Keep abreast of new developments in the field and changes in special education standards and regulations.

Maintain a procedure manual for this position, reviewing annually and submit revisions to supervisor at time of evaluation.

Regular attendance is an essential function of this position.

Qualifications:

School Psychologist certification required.

Knowledge of IDEA.

Knowledge of PA Special Education standards/regulations.

Proficient computer skills, including word processing, spreadsheets and database.

Ability to demonstrate diplomacy when dealing with community members, parents, teachers, staff and external contacts, and to maintain confidentiality.

Current Act 24 (82), Act 34, Act 114, Act 151, Act 168 clearances and pre-employment drug testing and physical with TB test required.

Use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls, and to talk and hear; sit, and occasionally be required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel and crouch; have specific vision abilities, to include close vision and the ability to adjust focus; subject to inside office environmental conditions with moderate noise level; have the ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds;

possess effective communication, judgment, mathematical, planning and human relations skills, and to meet deadlines with severe time constraints.

Terms of Employment:

10 months; 7.5 hours per day; 13 additional days during the summer months

Salary and benefits according to the agreement between the Board of School Directors and the Hazleton Area Education Association.
