Position: Commercial Utilities/ Hvac Technician(7am-3pm/ M-F)

Commercial Utilities/ Hvac Technician

Purpose and role of job:
Assists with the support, operation, maintenance, and repair of various types of process support systems. This includes, but is not limited to, process chillers, Central AC units, Stand-alone AC units, Air make-up units, Air handlers, and Air Compressors. The schedule for this position is Monday through Friday.

Principal Accountabilities/ Responsibilities:

  • Notifies appropriate personnel of real or potential safety hazards or violations and takes immediate corrective action when necessary.
  • Performs daily walkthroughs of the various utility areas for the purpose of identifying any items in need of repair.
  • Leads and/or assists with the repairs of process chillers, cooling towers, HVAC systems, air make-ups, and compressed air systems.
  • Performs minor electrical and pipe fitting repairs to HVAC and compressed air systems.
  • Works with various OEM's and the Maintenance Tech to develop a comprehensive preventive maintenance program.
  • Assists with performing the identified PM tasks for all utility systems.
  • Assists with refrigerant recovery and system charging efforts whenever necessary.
  • Demonstrates accurate record keeping and thoroughly completes all required paperwork.
  • Overtime may be required on off-shifts and weekends to satisfactorily perform duties.
  • Participation in both on-site and off-site training opportunities in order to gain further knowledge of various utility systems.
  • Shares in Department on-call responsibilities where applicable.
  • Attends all applicable training seminars provided by the Company.
  • When not engaged in lubrication or PM's will assist in repair of production or facility machinery and equipment as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as necessary when directed to do so.

Education and experience requirements:

  • High School diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
  • Minimum 3 Years of compressed air systems repair and maintenance, preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of general HVAC service, preferred.
  • Current Universal Refrigerant License, preferred.
  • Plumbing & Fitting (Ability to work with various piping systems up to 2" PVC, Copper and Carbon steel).
  • Electrical troubleshooting of various control systems related to utility equipment.
  • Understanding of centrifugal pumps.
  • Perform minor rigging tasks (i.e. chain falls, block & tackle, etc.).
  • Refrigerant handling experience & associated documentation.
  • Certification in fork/hand truck operation, scissor lift operation, and Genie boom operation.
  • Be able to utilize spare time to help meet goals and objectives in safety, quality, cost avoidance, and customer service.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Good computer skills, including CMMS (Infor, SAP, Maximo, etc.), Outlook, Excel, and other standard office programs.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Able to perform assigned duties without direct supervision.

Work Environment:

Observes all safety rules and uses the proper safety equipment at all times.

Physical Requirements:

  • Frequent walking / standing during a 12–hour shift.
  • Constant bending, kneeling, and climbing throughout shift.
  • Constant climbing and reaching into machines to fix jams.
  • Frequent reaching overhead during shift.
  • Constant pushing and pulling with arms and legs throughout shift.
  • Constant lifting or carrying up to 50 lbs.
  • Constant use of hands and occasional use of foot control.
  • Constant light and firm grasping with hands throughout shift.
  • Operation of roll manipulators, baler, and compactor.
  • Daily sweeping and organizing floor and work area.
  • Required participation in a daily pre-shift warm-up routine.
