Requirements

  • 2‑5 years of experience in an ECE program
  • 12‑24 ECE units, or enrollment toward GE units
  • CTC Associate Teacher permit
Qualifications
  • Associate or higher Child Development Teaching Permit with at least 6 months classroom experience
  • Must obtain a Child Development Associate Permit or higher within 6 months of employment if not yet possessed
  • Associate Teachers must work collegially with other center staff and respond positively to supervision and feedback
Responsibilities Professionalism
  • Adheres to all NBCC policies and procedures as mandated by Executive, Program, and/or Educational Resource Director
  • Co‑operates with the teaching team to maintain general housekeeping tasks, providing a clean, orderly, professional environment
  • Obtains and maintains certification of Pediatric First Aid and Pediatric CPR as required by California State Licensing
  • Engages in regular self‑assessment/goal setting and participates in timely evaluation of job performance with the Head Teacher and/or Site Supervisor
  • Co‑operates with the Head Teacher, staff, and/or Site Supervisor to obtain appropriate substitutes when ill, on vacation, or otherwise absent
  • Attends all scheduled NBCC Staff Development Days
  • Demonstrates ability to work as a collegial team member with respect, trust, and professionalism
  • Demonstrates professional demeanor at all times
  • Supports teaching team in implementing specific child behavior plans, interventions, and resource referrals
Child Interaction
  • Adheres to all CCL Personal Rights requirements; children are not subjected to corporal or unusual punishment, yelling, humiliation, mental abuse, or punitive interference with daily functioning such as speaking, sleeping, or toileting
  • Gives warmth and positive attention to each child in the classroom
  • Recognizes and considers each child in relation to cultural and ethnic background, responding to each unique child with dignity and respect; fosters positive self‑esteem through respectful interactions with children and staff
  • Practices positive reinforcement and redirection methods; similar standards regarding punishment apply as listed above
Program & Environment Maintenance
  • Co‑operates with all teaching staff to maintain required supervision of children at all times, inside and outside, in accordance with California State Licensing regulation ratio standards; aides without at least 12 CORE ECE units may not be left alone with children without supervision
  • Assists teaching staff in maintaining a safe, orderly arrangement and inviting appearance in all classrooms, including outside play areas
  • Conducts the daily set‑up of classrooms and outside play areas in an inviting fashion to promote positive exploration and developmental progress
  • Maintains classroom documents: daily meal counts, classroom rosters, and other reports
  • Reports in writing to the Head Teacher or Site Supervisor all injuries incurred by children or staff
Parent Relationships
  • Develops meaningful relationships with parents through facilitation of open, responsive communication on a continual basis
  • Directs any relevant feedback, positive or negative, promptly to the Head Teacher and/or Site Supervisor
Work Environment
  • Noise level in the work environment is frequently loud
  • Works outdoors and indoors
  • Uses computers, tablets, cell phone (if provided), and other office equipment
  • Works alone and with peers and supervisors
Human Resources

  • Tuberculosis test and documentation as specified
  • Criminal record clearance and/or exemption (DOJ, CACI & FBI)
  • Valid Driver’s License (if transporting children)
  • Child Abuse Managed Reporter Training (online)

  • Current CPR & First Aid
Physical Demands
  • Health clearance by a physician
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, bend, squat, reach, stand, and sit
  • Proof of current Immunizations (Measles, Pertussis, Influenza, COVID‑19)
  • TB clearance within the past year
Compensation

Hourly wage: 26‑30 USD
