Overview
We have an exciting opportunity for a Harvest Enologist Intern to join the Mac Rostie Winery production team for 2026 Harvest! Reporting to the Director of Winemaking, this role is responsible for overseeing and supporting the winemaking process during the critical harvest period. This role ensures that grape harvest and fermentation processes are conducted efficiently and with the highest quality standards, in line with the winery’s goals and practices.
The Harvest Enologist contributes to quality control, data collection, and the technical monitoring of fermentation and winemaking processes. This role also provides opportunities for hands‑on learning and development in enology for those pursuing a career in the wine industry. We are seeking an experienced and talented individual to serve as our Harvest Enologist at our Healdsburg facility alongside the winemaking team.
This role is based in Healdsburg and is a full‑time, temporary non‑exempt position, working July‑October (6am‑4:30pm with overtime flexibility and work during the weekends) tentatively.
- Prior experience with lab procedures and basic analyses (titrations, pH measurements, etc.)
- A college degree in Viticulture and Enology or other related science field. Students in a related field working on their degree should feel encouraged to apply as well.
- Experience with additions and inoculations preferred but not required.
- A basic knowledge and understanding of the winemaking process.
- Interpret and communicate clearly results to the winemaking team.
- Computer proficiency, specifically with Microsoft Excel and Word.
- A strong attention to detail and ability to execute tasks in a timely manner.
- Works well in a team setting but able to work on tasks alone and independently.
- Must be able to lift and carry 50 lbs, stand for long periods of time, and walk‑through vineyards with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Ability to work long hours at peak times (up to 12 hours a day and 6‑7 days a week).
- Ability to walk various vineyard terrain, stand for long periods of time and withstand working in outdoor environments/seasons/weather.
Must be able to provide U.S. Work Authorization without current or future sponsorship
Key Responsibilities- Operations – Lab (60%)
- Work closely with the Assistant Winemaker to ensure necessary sampling and analysis is performed accurately.
- Perform pre‑bottling analysis, QC checks during bottling, and grape sampling from vineyards throughout Sonoma County.
- Measure Brix/temperatures of fermentations daily, and perform daily berry, juice, and wine analyses.
- Oversee and assist with the fermentation process, ensuring it proceeds within desired parameters (temperature, yeast activity, etc.).
- Ensure proper documentation and reporting of all laboratory results for analysis and decision making. Enter lab data into Microsoft Excel and Vintrace winery software.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of lab equipment and materials.
- Operations – Cellar (40%)
- Assist with cellar operations as needed during the processing of harvested grapes, including crushing, pressing, and managing fermentation vessels, cap management, inoculations and additions, and wine transfers.
- Perform daily cleaning duties surrounding core cellar tasks.
- Work closely with the team to ensure coordination among harvesting and processing operations.
