Overview
The City of Healdsburg is recruiting for the position of Utility Worker I/II to join the Public Works Department. Placement at a particular level will be based on education, experience, and certifications. The salary ranges are:
Utility Worker I, $5,430.13 to $6,625.11;
Utility Worker II, $6,358.12 to $7,728.34.

Responsibilities- Perform a wide variety of skilled maintenance duties in the installation, construction, repair and maintenance of City facilities and utilities including water distribution and collection systems, streets, storm drain, and reclaimed water systems.
- Install, repair, maintain, and replace equipment used in water production and wastewater treatment facilities, including mains, service lines, valves, hydrants, meters, pump and lift stations, waterfront equipment, and confined space entries as needed.
- Perform pump station maintenance and sewer main flushing, cleaning, disinfection, and storm drain maintenance.
- Maintain streets, including potholes, signs, traffic lane markings, barricades, curbs, and related tasks; set up traffic controls and remove debris as needed.
- Work in the field and shop; mark Underground Service Alert locations; perform water and electric meter readings and disconnects as required.
- Safely operate a variety of trucks, heavy equipment, power tools, and conveyances; perform digging, trenching, concrete and asphalt work; standby emergency duties when needed.
- Conduct detailed underground facility analysis and inspections using CCTV pipeline inspection equipment and software.
- Maintain lift stations; build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, other City employees, and the public.

- Perform related duties as assigned.
Knowledge of general construction tools and equipment; safe work practices; construction and maintenance materials, methods and terminology related to public works and utilities; operation and safe use of heavy equipment and CCTV inspection equipment; confined-space procedures; mathematical calculations; OSHA safety requirements; and relevant local, state, and federal laws.
Ability to learn and perform a wide variety of maintenance duties; communicate clearly in writing and verbally; enter information into a computer; establish and maintain working relationships; read and interpret work orders, diagrams, blueprints and maps; take measurements; and perform standby duties. Ability to lift up to 90 pounds, work in various environments, and use safety procedures and protective equipment.
Experience and Training
For Utility Worker I:
Any combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge and abilities. Typical requirements include some heavy manual labor and general construction or maintenance experience; equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade. License and certificates: possession of a valid California Class A Driver License with Air Brake and Tanker Endorsements or the ability to obtain a temporary permit within six months and then a permanent license within six more months;
Grade 2 Water Distribution Operator certification within one year;
Grade I Wastewater Collection System Maintenance certification within one year.
For Utility Worker II
:
Two years of responsible experience similar to Utility Worker I with the City of Healdsburg; equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade. License and certificates: valid California Class A Driver License with airbrake and tanker endorsements at the time of appointment;
Grade 2 Water Distribution Operator certificate;
Grade I Wastewater Collection System Maintenance certificate within six months to 30 months of appointment (as applicable).
