Overview
The Security Officer is responsible for maintaining a safe environment for patients, visitors, employees, and volunteers in office or ambulatory clinic settings. Duties include monitoring visitor and patient activity, overseeing premises, enforcing policies, providing assistance and direction, responding to emergencies, and protecting employees, visitors, and property.
Location:
Intermountain Health Heber Valley Hospital, Heber City, Utah. Scheduled weekly hours: 40.
Full‑time position. Starting pay $19.95 per hour, based on related experience. Shift differentials available for evenings, nights, and weekends. Schedule primarily day shifts; flexibility required for evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
Essential Functions- Operate and monitor security technology systems, including surveillance cameras, access control systems, and alarm systems, ensuring proper functioning and maintenance.
- Use verbal and non‑verbal de‑escalation strategies to calm individuals and resolve conflicts peacefully.
- Intervene to protect safety when patients act aggressively or violently, applying physical restraints when necessary.
- Ensure compliance with regulations such as HIPAA when reporting crimes or incidents, disclosing only necessary information to law enforcement.
- Respond to bomb threats and suspicious packages following established protocols.
- Participate in drills such as infant abduction and active shooter scenarios to prepare staff for real‑life situations.
- Conduct respectful and safe searches of patients and narcotics, complying with legal requirements.
- Inspect safety of walking surfaces, fire extinguishers, and overall facility to mitigate risks.
- Enforce parking regulations to ensure safety and accessibility.
- Collaborate with HR and law enforcement to conduct investigations, following protocols for disclosing patient information.

- Current driver’s license (if applicable for the role).
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for healthcare providers or willingness to obtain within 90 days of hire.
- At least 21 years of age.
- One year of previous experience in law enforcement, corrections, public safety, military police, or security.
- Ability to see, read, and interpret information, labels, and monitors.
- Capacity for frequent communication with customers and rapid interpretation of alarms and other information.
- Manual dexterity to manipulate equipment with precision.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull equipment up to heavy weights; frequent bending, kneeling, and lifting required.
