Position: Behavior Technician - Multiple Openings / GHS

Behavior Technician

Hebron Public Schools has multiple Behavior Technician openings at Gilead Hill School for the  school year, starting in August 2026. This is a 10 month position.

Position Summary:

Behavior Technicians are required to work with students with special needs under the direction of a special education case manager to assist in the implementation of IEP goals and objectives. The behavior technician supports and works in cooperation with the Principal, Dean of Students, Director of Educational Services, and assigned educators in performing the varied tasks involved with supporting students who receive Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and Discrete Trial Programming (DTI).

The qualified candidate will utilize the tenets of applied behavior analysis (ABA) to support program development and implementation/progress monitoring of educational programs. Behavior technicians provide 1:1 support to students with autism and related disabilities. The ideal candidate has prior experience in this role, specifically in supporting students with autism spectrum disorders or significant behavioral needs and application of applied behavior analysis.

The ideal candidate will have experience in data collection, organization and analysis for the purpose of future programming decisions, as well as knowledge and skills in implementing programming for complex learners. The ideal candidate is also flexible to adapt to the changing nature of the demands of their students and team. The Behavior Technician is caring, compassionate, and committed to each student's success.

Supervisor/Evaluation:
Receives general supervision and performance evaluation from Principal and/or Dean of Students, with significant input from special education teachers.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 support to students with autism and related disabilities
  • Work with children individually to reinforce basic skills and to check their use of instructional materials under the supervision of the teacher
  • Utilize the tenets of applied behavior analysis (ABA) to support program development and implementation/progress monitoring of educational programs
  • Ongoing data collection, organization and analysis for the purpose of future programming decisions
  • Assist the teacher in the development and construction of materials to be used as instructional and reinforcement activities
  • Help to prepare the room, materials, and equipment for daily use
  • Provide routine non-teaching classroom procedures
  • Participate in staff meetings and in-service programs as requested by the principal or teacher
  • Provide supervision for non-classroom activities as directed by the principal (bus arrival/departure, lunch room, and playground)
  • Plan with the teacher follow-up DTI and related programming activities to reinforce student progress and growth
  • Model professional and ethical standards when dealing with students, parents, staff, and community, following and upholding school rules and standards
  • Safely supervise students in both instructional and assessment activities in and out of the classroom

Skills:

  • Effective communication skills; oral, written and visual with adults and children
  • Understanding of basic principles of childhood development
  • Familiarity with educational software or willingness to learn
  • Ability to effectively provide behavior de-escalation strategies for students, which include safely performing restraints and physical escorts as trained

Qualifications:

  • Associates Degree, 2 years of higher education, or passing score on the Para Pro Assessment
  • Completion of an approved 40 hour behavior training sequence
  • Passing score on the district behavior technician examination
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues
  • Excellent interpersonal skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience working with students with autism spectrum disorders or significant behavioral needs strongly desired
  • Bachelor's degree in applied behavior analysis, school psychology, education, or other related field strongly desired
  • Teacher certification(s) preferred but not required
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification preferred but not required
