Job Overview
The Montana Department of Corrections (DOC) is creating a safer Montana through Accountability, Rehabilitation and Empowerment. The Accounting Supervisor in the Director’s Office (Helena, MT) leads and develops a team of accounting professionals by providing training, mentorship, and daily workflow oversight while ensuring strong internal controls and consistent compliance. The role conducts internal control checks, monitors accuracy, maintains the integrity of financial processes across the unit, and oversees the agency’s accounts payable and receivable functions, including specialized accounting related to payments for contract secure beds.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and develop a team of accounting professionals.
- Provide training, mentorship, and daily workflow oversight.
- Ensure strong internal controls and consistent compliance.
- Conduct internal control checks and monitor accuracy.
- Maintain integrity of financial processes across the unit.
- Oversee accounts payable and receivable functions.
- Handle specialized accounting related to payments for contract secure beds.
- Bachelor’s degree with a major in accounting.
- Two years of accounting experience.
- Two years of experience supervising staff.
- Alternative combinations of education and experience will be considered on a case‑by‑case basis.
- Thorough knowledge of GAAP and internal controls.
- Strong communication skills and proven problem‑solving abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Commitment to high‑quality accounting practices.
$33.00 - $36.00 hourly (will increase by $1.00 per hour or 2.5%, whichever is greater, effective July 1, 2026).
