What is this career opportunity?
This position is part of a small team that strives to positively impact local government success. Our role is to assist and support local government entities (LGEs) and their elected officials, board members, and employees in complying with Montana law.
We will provide compliance assurance of the bureau’s responsibilities by performing reviews of local government financial statements and audit reports to ensure compliance with state, federal, and governmental accounting regulations. In addition to accounting and auditing technical experience, this position will require self‑management, professional judgment, critical thinking, and problem‑solving abilities.
While experience in governmental accounting is preferred, we will provide guidance and training for individuals with strong soft skills and a passion for public service.
Work Location and Telework
Telework is available with a required weekly in‑office day(s) in Helena as outlined in the job offer. Conditions will be defined in accordance with state policy.

- Bachelor’s degree in accounting.
- Other combinations of education and experience will be assessed on a case‑by‑case basis.
- Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Generally Accepted Governmental Auditing Standards (GAGAS)
- Governmental accounting, auditing, financial statements, and budgeting
- Federal Office of Management and Budgets (OMB)
- State Social Security rules and regulations
$76,000.00 – $78,000.00 per year.
