Position Title:

Legal Operations Officer - ) within the Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS) Director’s Office / Office of Legal Affairs.

In this role, the Legal Operations Officer (LOO) reports directly to the Chief Legal Counsel and works closely with the Deputy Chief Legal Counsel. The LOO is responsible for workflow management, service‑request tracking, budget and fiscal operations, case management systems administration, and administrative staff supervision. The position focuses on driving operations performance improvement, mitigating operational risks, and optimizing resource allocation to achieve the Department’s legal service delivery objectives across all practice groups and core divisions.

• Knowledge of legal office operations, case management practices, and legal service delivery models
• Knowledge of public administration including budget processes, fiscal management, and procurement rules
• Leadership ability to guide teams and drive operational excellence
• Ability to manage multiple and competing high‑profile, sensitive, or controversial issues
• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Management, or related field
• Three or more years of work experience in operations management, legal operations, or a related field
• Three or more years of management and supervisory experience preferred
• Prior experience as part of a legal office team is a priority selection criterion
• Prior experience as a paralegal or legal administrative assistant is highly desired
• Other combinations of related education and experience may be considered on a case‑by‑case basis

$43.97 per hour (Hourly);
