OverviewAt Helena Public Schools, our vision is to foster dynamic educational experiences that prepare all students for life. As a Level II/Behavioral Interventionist (Special Education) Para Educator, you contribute to this mission by assisting students’ daily training programs who need a little extra help. You will work as part of a team of 150 serving 8,000 students across 18 campuses.
Responsibilities- Apply an understanding of individual needs to assist special services students with learning assigned materials and instructional exercises that support the growth of the whole child.
- Tutor special services students individually or in small groups to reinforce and follow up learning activities.
- Provide assistance with hygiene and feeding, escort students to various rooms, and load/unload students on buses as needed.
- Assist in maintaining appropriate documentation.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Up to three (3) months of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience as determined by the District.
- Must successfully complete the required background check before employment.
- Must be able to safely work with escalated students during crisis intervention and lift/move up to 40 lbs or push/pull up to 100 lbs.
Ideal candidate: associate’s degree (or equivalent) and experience working with disabled children.
BenefitsCurrent entry‑level salary range is $16.20–$19.73 per hour depending on education level and relevant work experience. A comprehensive benefit package includes paid sick and vacation leave, 3 paid personal days, 9 paid holidays, up to 13 school‑calendar related paid days, paid retirement and health benefits coverage during summer break.
This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement between the Helena School District and the Helena Education Association.
