Helena School District #1 has openings for full‑time Level I (Special Education) Para Educators for the  School Year. At Helena Public Schools, our vision is to foster dynamic educational experiences that prepare all students for life. As a Level I Para Educator, you contribute to this mission by supporting students’ daily training programs who need extra help. You will work as part of a team of 70 serving 8,000 students across 18 campuses in Helena.

Responsibilities
  • Apply understanding of individual needs to assist special services students with learning assigned materials and instructional exercises that support the growth of the whole child.
  • Tutor students with special needs individually or in small groups to reinforce and follow up learning activity.
  • Provide assistance with hygiene and feeding, escorting children to various rooms, and loading/unloading students on buses as needed.
  • Assist in maintaining appropriate data collection and documentation.
  • Provide 1‑to‑1 assistance to students.
  • Serve as supervision on lunch and recess duty.
  • Assist with bus duty.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Up to three (3) months of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience as determined by the District.

The ideal candidate will possess an associate’s degree (or equivalent education) and has experience working with disabled children. The successful candidate has the ability to safely work with escalated students who may hit, kick, bite, and scratch during crisis intervention prevention. Essential functions of the position include the ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 40 pounds and/or push/pull up to 100 pounds with or without a reasonable accommodation.

Current entry‑level salary range is $16.10–$19.63 per hour depending on education level and applicable relevant work experience as determined by the District and includes a comprehensive benefit package including paid sick and vacation leave, 3 paid personal days, 9 paid holidays, up to 13 paid school calendar related days, health benefits with coverage during the summer break, and retirement.

  • This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement between the Helena School District and the Helena Education Association.
