Early Childhood Assistant Teacher Infant - Petes Place

Job Description

The Early Childhood Assistant Teacher supports the Lead Teacher in providing a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment for infants ages 6 weeks to 24 months. This role assists with implementing developmentally appropriate activities, supervising children throughout the day, and meeting each child's individual developmental and emotional needs. The Assistant Teacher helps maintain a clean, healthy, and stimulating classroom while promoting learning through play, exploration, and positive interactions.

The position works collaboratively with staff and families, follows all state licensing and safety regulations, participates in ongoing training and professional development, and provides classroom coverage as needed to support the changing needs of the center. Flexibility to work in all infant classrooms is required.

Qualifications
  • Knowledge /

    Experience:

    Demonstrated knowledge and practical application of principles of childhood growth and development; ability to apply Early Childhood Development theory in daily activities and adapt to the individual needs of infants; decision‑making and problem‑solving abilities; understanding of the ECLT routine to deliver lesson plans and run the class when the Lead Teacher is absent; teamwork and collaboration with staff, families, community resources;

    respectful communication; supervision of infants and ensuring a safe environment; responsiveness to events in classroom and outdoor play areas; following ECLT tasks throughout the day; ability to receive oversight and guidance from an onsite Lead Teacher or Director.
  • Education: Minimum age 16 years. High School Diploma, GED equivalent, or HiSET preferred.
  • License / Certification / Registry: American Heart Association Heart Saver CPR and Pediatric First Aid certification required within first 30 days of employment and to be kept current thereafter;
    Montana Early Childhood Project Practitioner Registry required within 15 days of hire;
    Infant Safety Essentials within 30 days and Health and Safety Required Professional Development within 90 days of hire; mandatory 16‑hour annual training and current St. Peter’s Health and State Child Care Licensing immunizations required.
  • Aptitudes: Ability to handle multiple tasks and stressors efficiently; genuine interest and enjoyment of small children; calm and reassuring presence in all situations; good judgment and critical thinking skills to ensure child safety and well‑being.
