Salary Range: $110,430 - $142,700
ResponsibilitiesDirect environmental remediation projects across Montana, Washington, Wyoming, and Colorado in accordance with BNSF guidelines. Select and implement remediation alternatives; negotiate with state and federal agencies on cleanup standards; negotiate cost-recovery with third parties; act as a first responder to derailments and environmental emergencies.
Manage reduction of environmental liability at BNSF legacy sites by overseeing remediation projects with technical expertise and consultant management, negotiating with governmental agencies and affected parties to complete timely and effective remediation, and ensuring cost estimates comply with Environmental Reserve guidelines. Negotiate remedies that protect human health and the environment while being financially reasonable.
Qualifications• Bachelor of Science degree in a field related to environmental remediation (SB30) required; post‑graduate degree (SB31) preferred.
• Environmental remediation experience required (5+ years for SB30 or 10+ years for SB31).
• Extensive knowledge of environmental regulations (e.g., RCRA, CERCLA, OPA), spill reporting, and liabilities.
• Knowledge of chemistry, chemical hazards, tank cars, and health and environmental impacts of chemical releases.
• Excellent written and verbal communication and negotiation skills.
• Ability to become an OSHA‑trained hazardous materials adviser.
• Registered Professional Engineer, Professional Geologist, or other certified professional highly desirable.
• Knowledge of contaminant migration in soil and groundwater, experience managing environmental consultants, experience in a railroad environment, and experience managing multiple projects desired.
Eligibility RequirementsAll positions require pre‑employment background verification, medical review, and pre‑employment drug screening. BNSF employees who require unescorted access to secure port facilities must obtain a TWIC.
