What is this career opportunity?
The Architecture & Engineering Division (A&E) is seeking a collaborative professional with experience in architecture, engineering, facilities, or energy/building systems to support statewide facility planning and energy initiatives. In this role, you will work alongside architects, engineers, consultants, and agency partners to improve Montana’s public buildings through data-driven planning, energy efficiency, and capital project coordination.
You will contribute to the State’s Long-Range Building Program by coordinating facility condition assessments, advancing energy conservation efforts, and supporting planning studies that guide future investments. This role offers a balance of technical analysis, project coordination, and cross-functional collaboration—while maintaining a strong focus on building performance and long-term value.
Responsibilities- Coordinating facility condition assessment (FCA) efforts by driving consultant work, participating in site evaluations, and maintaining accurate facility data in Archibus in collaboration with state agency partners.
- Interpreting facility condition index (FCI) data to help prioritize capital improvements and inform long‑range planning.
- Assisting with evaluation of energy conservation measures, including energy savings analysis and net present value calculations.
- Coordinating utility rebates and supporting agency repayment agreements tied to energy projects.
- Promoting energy‑efficient design strategies in collaboration with project teams and stakeholders.
- Supporting Long‑Range Building Program (LRBP) planning, including preparation of project materials, feasibility studies, and capital development planning.
- Collaborating with internal teams to align facility data, energy initiatives, and capital plans into a cohesive six‑year improvement strategy.
Minimum
Education and Experience:
- Degree in Architecture, Engineering, Facilities Management, Energy/Building Science, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Experience working with cross‑functional teams, consultants, or public sector stakeholders is preferred.
- Alternate combinations of education and experience will be considered.
- Plus skills (we’ll train the right person):
- Experience with facility assessments, building systems, project coordination, or energy programs.
- Familiarity with FCA practices and ability to interpret FCI data.
- Experience working with cross‑functional teams, consultants, or public sector stakeholders is preferred.
- Experience with Archibus or energy analysis tools is helpful but not required.
Knowledge of:
- Building systems (facility assessment methodologies are a plus)
- Capital planning and project coordination principles
- Energy efficiency and sustainable building practices
Ability to:
- Analyze facility data and translate it into actionable planning insights
- Manage multiple priorities across assessment, energy, and planning work streams
- Communicate clearly with technical and non‑technical stakeholders
- Collaborate with architects, engineers, consultants, and agency partners
- Exercise sound judgment and support data‑driven decision‑making
- Build strong working relationships across a diverse stakeholder group
- Identify opportunities to improve building performance and long‑term asset value
