OverviewThe Air Quality Engineering Scientist performs unique analyses, calculations, and professional functions essential to the implementation of the air quality program in the state of Montana. This role supports the department’s goal of championing a healthy environment for a thriving Montana.
Responsibilities- Review, prescribe, and assess the design and implementation of structures, devices, systems, and processes to ensure compliance with air pollution control regulations.
- Analyze facilities, equipment, and industrial processes to verify compliance with air quality rules and permit requirements.
- Review and implement state and federal statutes, rules, and policies related to air quality.
- Act as a liaison for the Department with the public and industry on air quality matters.
- Conduct field inspections at industrial sites.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, preferably environmental engineering, or a closely related field.
- Additional degrees preferred:
Biology, Chemistry, Atmospheric Science, or a related science field. - Two years of job‑related experience in environmental engineering design and compliance, or a related engineering profession.
