We are seeking an experienced Premium Auditor who understands that auditing is a blend of technical precision and high-level relationship management. This isn't just about spreadsheets; you are a consultant and a partner to Montana’s diverse business community.

As a Premium Auditor, you will manage a portfolio of small to medium-sized businesses with moderate complexity. You’ll spend your time in the field and virtually, acting as a critical bridge between MSF and our policyholders. What you will do:

  • Advanced Premium Auditing: Conduct moderately complex audits for a diverse range of Montana businesses, applying expert knowledge of unique exposures, specialized coverage endorsements, and NCCI classification codes. Support the Other States Coverage (OSC) Program by applying multi-state audit requirements and navigating jurisdictional nuances.
  • Customer

    Education & Experience:

    Act as a liaison, educating policyholders on payroll reporting requirements and workers' compensation laws to ensure transparency and trust. Provide meaningful audit experiences that drive policyholder retention and strengthen MSF’s reputation.
  • Subject Matter Expertise & Training: Serve as a Premium Audit expert for internal staff and external stakeholders. Develop and deliver training sessions—including those approved for State Auditor’s Office (SAO) continuing education credits. Represent MSF at Board Committee meetings, producer trainings, and county commission events.
  • Policy collaboration: Partner with internal MSF stakeholders to ensure that audit findings accurately reflect current and future policy periods, ensuring long‑term data integrity.
  • Audit coordination: Select, schedule and complete audit assignments and compute audited subject payroll at customer sites. Verify insured’s business operations, legal status, job classifications and payroll distribution among work exposures by reviewing policyholder’s records, interviewing owners, and worksite observation. Obtain all necessary and pertinent customer documents to achieve thorough work file documentation and complete all required steps.

  • Resilience when navigating challenges, setbacks, or difficult conversations.
  • Strong time‑management skills to effectively balance field travel with analytical reporting.
  • Professionalism & Integrity when representing MSF in the field and virtually.

Required Experience

What you will need (minimum qualifications):

  • Bachelor's degree and one (1) year of premium audit experience;
    OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
