Grant Accountant

Job Overview

This position is responsible for providing professional accounting, budgeting and fiscal grant management services for various federal grants. The grants administered by the Office of Public Instruction total more than $52 million annually. Duties include establishing SABHRS accounting structures, developing internal accounting systems and controls for financial operations and grant management; distributing funds to sub‑recipients; fiscal monitoring of sub‑grantees to ensure compliance with federal laws, rules, regulations, and individual grant provisions;

and providing technical assistance and training to sub‑recipients. The position is the Lead Worker for other Grant Accountant II staff, training new accounting staff and providing assistance and ongoing support.

• Establish SABHRS accounting structures
• Develop internal accounting systems and controls for financial operations and grant management
• Distribute funds to sub‑recipients
• Monitor fiscal compliance of sub‑grantees with federal laws, rules, regulations, and grant provisions
• Provide technical assistance and training to sub‑recipients
• Act as Lead Worker: train new accounting staff and provide ongoing support

• Knowledge of concepts and theories applicable to professional accounting and budgeting.
• Knowledge of state and federal accounting, budgeting, and auditing policies and procedures.
• Knowledge of the principles and practices of governmental accounting, SABHRS, and GAAP.
• Knowledge of a large body of complex laws, rules, and regulations:
  Montana Code Annotated (MCA), Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), OMB Circulars (A-87, A-102, A-133).
• Skills to develop, design, and modify accounting information systems and complex spreadsheet applications required to meet reporting, budgeting, and accounting demands.
• Skill in the use of personal computers, ten‑key calculators, and standard office equipment.

• 2 years job‑related college or vocational training.
• 3 years state and/or federal accounting experience or related field.

$29.55 hourly. Telework Eligibility:
