OverviewThe Montana Department of Revenue’s Information Management and Collections Division serves citizens and businesses by processing tax returns, refunds, and payments, increasing electronic filings, resolving overdue debt, and collecting other state agency debt.
Responsibilities- Contact Montana citizens via phone, mail, or email to discuss tax obligations.
- Accept payments over the phone and process them accurately.
- Negotiating reasonable payment plans within department guidelines.
- Conduct extensive research to locate contact information such as phone numbers and addresses.
- Research and determine individuals liable for trust tax balances.
- Maintain confidential citizen records in the integrated tax system.
- Research and locate contact information such as phone numbers and addresses.
- Tax collection methods and procedures.
- Database operations.
- Basic accounting and financial records analysis.
- Microsoft programs and other database applications.
- Written, verbal, and interpersonal communication.
- Demonstrate self‑motivation.
- Follow instructions.
- Provide timely customer service.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Three (3) years of work experience in customer service, debt collections, or credit and finance.
- Other combinations of education and experience will be evaluated on an individual basis.
- Completion of a DOR tax and background check.
- Eligibility for employment as defined by a criminal background check and current tax status.

- This job cannot be performed at an alternate work site.
- Telework is not available; this position requires a primary residence in Montana and reporting to a designated Department of Revenue office.
- Training assignments may be used; employees may be paid below the base pay during training.
$49,709.00 – 51,256.00 per year.
