Job Overview: The position is in the Business & Income Taxes Division (BIT). BIT’s auditing technicians perform duties assigned by management, including simple examinations of various tax returns, adjusting tax returns, conducting research, communication, and participation in the appeal process. They also provide support for other unit operations and complex examination activities. The position does not supervise staff.

This position may be eligible to work from an approved worksite within the state of Montana. Telework requires reporting to a Department of Revenue office assigned by the supervisor and meeting telework eligibility requirements. Telework is approved after training is complete.
Training AssignmentThe agency may use a training assignment. Employees in training assignments may be paid below the base pay. Conditions of the training assignment will be stated in writing at the time of hire.

Typically acquired through a combination of education and experience equivalent to:
- High School Diploma or GED qualification
- One year of professional work experience is preferred, but not required, in accounting, money management, banking, bookkeeping or related fields
- Other combinations of education and experience are evaluated on an individual basis
