Job Description

The Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility and accountability for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the care of patients. The staff RN utilizes the nursing process by use of technology, therapeutic intervention, evidence-based practice, and coordination of care with other health team members.

Schedule
  • Four 9‑hour shifts per week
  • Rotating Monday‑Friday schedule with one weekday off
  • Weekends off (except when on call)
  • Typical hours 7:00 AM – 4:30 PM (start and end times vary based on procedure schedule)
  • On‑call requirements: 7–8 overnight call shifts per 8‑week scheduling period, one weekend of call per cycle, holiday call at least one holiday per year
  • 30‑minute response time required during emergent cases at nights and weekends
Essential Functions

Assess: Performs appropriate assessment of physical, social, and psychological status, including cognitive, communicative, and developmental skills as appropriate. Seeks and evaluates information from interdisciplinary team members.

Plan: Uses assessment information and critical thinking skills to collaboratively develop individualized plan of care, involving patients, families, team, and physicians, including education and referrals.

Implement: Directs interdisciplinary care team via delegation, coordination, and collaboration. Provides or delegates care consistent with plan, guidelines, and licensure provisions, coordinating resources and priorities.

Evaluate: Evaluates patient response to interventions, reviews achievement of goals and outcomes, revises plan of care as indicated, and reassesses changes.

Professionalism: Promotes nursing profession, participates in development of others, integrates legal and ethical standards, complies with regulatory standards, maintains accurate documentation, and understands legal implications of care delivery.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of practice.
  • Valid compact licenses must be transferred within 60 days of employment.
  • RNs with less than 12 months experience must obtain a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) within four years of hire.
  • Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) for healthcare providers.
  • A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution.
  • BSN requirement effective as of 4/27/2025.
Physical Requirements
  • See, read, and interpret information and labels.
  • Verbal communication and understanding of alarms, spoken information, emergencies.
  • Manual dexterity for complex equipment, typing, and medication preparation.
  • Lift and transfer patients, move supplies up to heavy items.
  • Assist with transporting/ambulating patients and equipment.
  • Stand for extended periods.
  • Drivers required to drive a vehicle with safe driving tasks.
Location & Hours

Intermountain Health St. Vincent Regional Hospital, Billings, Montana.

36 scheduled weekly hours. Hourly rate $38.37 – $56.17 depending on experience.
