Overview

Consistently provide friendly and cooperative service to internal and external customers at our retail locations, which operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week with limited exceptions. Process customer orders efficiently, accurately, safely, and courteously at a two‑aisle check stand, a multi‑station self‑checkout lane, or a customer service desk as assigned. Generally work 6–8 hour shifts between 5:00 am and 1:00 am.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Seek opportunities to welcome, engage, serve, and thank customers, maintaining an atmosphere of friendly, enthusiastic customer service.
  • Operate check stand equipment such as a cash register, scanner, and scale to process customer orders using two aisles.
  • Engage in suggestive selling and other sales techniques.
  • Process monetary transactions—including cash, checks, gift certificates, travelers’ checks, food stamps, coupons, and refunds—while adhering to all Cash Handling and Lane Accountability policies and procedures.
  • Maintain knowledge of current product location, monitor UPC codes, and ensure proper pricing.
  • Keep the check stand clean, neat, and properly stocked, and ensure a safe and secure work area.
  • Stock, price, and rotate merchandise.
  • May be assigned to a multi‑station self‑checkout lane or the customer service counter as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or needed.
  • Follow all state and federal laws concerning the sale of restricted items, such as tobacco and alcohol.
  • Adhere to all U.S. Department of Agriculture Food Stamp or WIC voucher procedures.
Additional Self‑Checkout Attendant Duties and Responsibilities
  • Move regularly within the self‑checkout area to expedite transactions, maintain an attentive presence, and keep the area clear of safety hazards.
  • Initiate and engage contact with customers as they process their transactions.
  • Respond to self‑checkout stations to accurately review, address, and clear alerts or errors with customer transactions.
  • Monitor multiple simultaneous transactions and verify payment in a fast‑paced setting.
  • Actively and routinely engage with customers at self‑checkout kiosks to assist in transactions, ensure accuracy, and limit shrinkage.
  • Maintain a high level of awareness of the self‑checkout area and customers, anticipating their needs and monitoring transaction activity.
  • Prioritize the safety of employees and customers by addressing or reporting concerns as provided by company policy.
Requirements
  • Work varied shifts in a 24/7 operation, including night, weekends, and holidays.
  • Perform friendly, courteous, and tactful relations with customers and co‑workers with composure.
  • Communicate effectively, including hearing and speech, to perform customer relation tasks.
  • Complete written forms.
  • Conduct visual inspections and read information on merchandise.
  • Lift and maneuver objects of varying dimensions and weights up to 20 lbs. frequently, and perform repetitious work accurately.
  • Lift up to 50 lbs. occasionally.
  • Operate check stand equipment such as cash registers, scanners, and scales.
  • Stand or sit for long periods, walk, bend, stoop, twist, and turn frequently.
  • Must be 16 years of age or older.
  • Possess manual dexterity and good hand/eye coordination.
  • Learn and memorize a considerable amount of information, including PLU codes, product locations, check stand and keyboard procedures, and company policies.
  • Ensure accuracy in scanning and verifying sales and handling monetary transactions with mental alertness and basic math skills.
