Centralized Maintenance/Grounds Worker

As a Centralized Maintenance/Grounds Worker you contribute to this mission by keeping the District and grounds in a state of operating excellence that support the education program. This position works as part of a team of 70+ maintenance employees serving 8,000 students and 21 campuses across Helena.
Responsibilities- Assist in the maintenance and repair of district grounds, including planting, mowing, watering, weeding, snow removal, trash collection, sign installation/replacement, and other related tasks.
- Operate vehicles, equipment, and a variety of hand and small power tools to support grounds operations.
- Perform cleaning and maintenance of district facilities.
- Carry out sports field maintenance by fertilizing, weed spraying, grass seeding, dragging, leveling infields, and watering.
- Engage in general light maintenance work as needed.
- Support general labor inside and outside district facilities, including craft support, construction removal/remodel support, material handling, activity set‑up and removal, field marking, building equipment transfers, operating power‑driven equipment, truck driving, snow and ice removal, roofing, mowing, refuse removal, and maintenance of underground sprinkler systems.
- Valid Montana Commercial Driver’s license.
- Valid Montana Department of Agriculture Pesticide/Herbicide Applicators license.
- Valid Montana low‑pressure boiler license.
- Experience operating heavy equipment, shop equipment, and construction machinery (roofing, framing, concrete, basic plumbing, minor electrical).
- Experience with mechanical system equipment maintenance (filter changes, lubrication, belt adjustment/replacement).
- Experience with irrigation system installation and repair.
- Experience with snow removal.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Five years of experience in grounds maintenance or related work.
- Or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience as determined by the District.
- Ability to understand and follow written and oral directions and to work cooperatively with others.
- General knowledge of methods, supplies, and tools used for maintaining school grounds in a safe, clean, and orderly condition.
- Physical capability to frequently lift or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds.
Current entry level salary is $19.07 per hour and includes a comprehensive benefit package.
