Senior Building Controls Technician
The Building People, LLC, has a position open for a full‑time Senior Building Controls Technician to provide services related to the expansion, upgrade or replacement of building automation hardware and software for smart building infrastructure. The position will work independently to meet project requirements with limited supervision. The programmer will be responsible for programming, configuring, and testing of Direct Digital Control (DDC) building automation and control systems.
Responsibilities- Design and engineer control system hardware and software programming based on project plans, specifications, and other contract documents
- Program projects with various levels of complexity
- Perform network troubleshooting, database troubleshooting and repair programming
- Collaborate with the engineering team on system configuration, network and software requirements, graphics, programming, and sequences of operations
- Develop and configure the sequence of operations, programming, graphics, database, network, and integrations into third‑party systems
- Maintain accurate and thorough project documentation and redlines
- Provide owner training as required by the project
- Execute system commissioning and functional testing
- Assist in installation of control hardware
- Start‑up and commission new hardware installations
- Provide project management assistance on projects as required, interfacing directly to customers
- Supervise sub‑contractors and suppliers as needed
- Help educate lower‑level technicians through on‑the‑job training as needed
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software
- Programming skills
- Strong analytical skills
- Strong interactive and communication skills
- Strong troubleshooting skills
- Experience with electronics and basic electrical circuits
- Thorough understanding of and ability to use appropriate tools
- Excellent customer service and ability to work well with others
- Knowledge of DDC Control Theory and Applications as related to HVAC equipment
- Strong knowledge of common DDC communications protocols such as BACnet, LON, Modbus, etc.
- At least 3 years of experience with programming, start‑up and commissioning of control systems
- Niagara N4 certification
- Experience with multiple manufacturers of controls (a plus)
- Technical knowledge with installation of controls equipment and ancillary devices
- Physically able to climb overhead or crawl under spaces to complete jobs
- Must be willing to work at heights
- Must be able to lift up to 35 pounds at times
Salary offered will be commensurate with the candidate's experience, qualifications, and certifications.
