Accessibility Services Coordinator and Advisor
Helena College, a two‑year college of the University of Montana, seeks a qualified applicant for a full‑time position as an Accessibility Services Coordinator and Advisor.
Mission:
The Accessibility Services program strives to afford students with disabilities the same opportunities for physical and programmatic access available to students without disabilities.
- Conduct interviews following the interactive process, determine eligibility, and implement appropriate accommodations and assistive technologies.
- Advocate for and liaise with faculty and staff to ensure student educational access.
- Communicate program requirements and transition information to students, parents, and secondary education representatives.
- Identify, evaluate, and develop program goals, processes, and procedures.
- Develop, administer, and monitor the accessibility services budget.
- Maintain knowledge of current legal rulings and emerging disability issues.
- Represent Accessibility Services on the CARE team.
- Maintain confidential student records in compliance with FERPA.
- Attend professional development activities to stay current on accessibility services.
- Provide academic advising and support to students to facilitate completion of degree programs.
- Offer general student services assistance and referrals for new and continuing students.
- Maintain detailed records of student progression and goals.
- Assist students in navigating campus processes and using software systems to track academic records.
- Participate in advising team meetings.
- Collaborate with facility and maintenance staff to ensure campus accessibility.
- Consult with community, state, and professional organizations and colleagues, including the Office of Disability Equity at the University of Montana.
- Work with faculty on specific student concerns.
- Create partnerships with state and local resources (e.g., Ability Montana, Vocational Rehab.) to promote student self‑efficacy for career and independent living.
- Provide faculty, staff, and student training regarding accessibility services.
- Help develop institutional policies and procedures concerning students with disabilities.
- Communicate program information to the campus community.
- Supervise the disability‑focused Advisory Council that reviews program requirements and educational outcomes.
- Bachelor’s degree in an applicable field; combination of education and relevant work experience will be considered.
- Excellent verbal, written, problem‑solving, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently.
- Experience handling confidential materials including disability information protected by FERPA.
- Willingness to pursue ongoing professional development and maintain current knowledge of accessibility services.
- Experience working within a higher‑education setting, preferably a two‑year institution.
- Experience with an accessibility services program in a post‑secondary setting.
- Experience with ADA compliance.
Full‑time, 1.0 FTE (40 hours per week). Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Hours and schedule may vary depending on program needs.
