OverviewThe City of Lethbridge, Transportation Operations Department is accepting applications for a term position of Patching Technician – Patching Crew
. We are looking for results-oriented individuals who are committed to providing exemplary public service.
STATUS: Term
HOURS OF WORK: 40 hours per week, night and weekend work may be required
PAYRATE: $30.14 per hour
In this role, you will: Under the direction of a Patching Lead hand, the successful applicant will be required to perform patching duties including tacking, raking, rolling and transporting asphalt relating to the pavement, re-surfacing and repair of streets and alleys using hot and cold asphalt materials. This includes smaller surface repairs, dig and patch jobs, regular potholes and other road maintenance tasks.
WhatYou Bring to the Table Qualifications & Experience
- A valid class 5 license is required, and preference will be given to those also holding a valid Q endorsement
- Current certification in Defensive Driving, Alberta Temporary Traffic Control (ATTC) Training and/or first aid certification would all be considered an asset
- Must have completed a high school diploma or equivalent
- Must have the ability to work night and weekend shifts
- A minimum of 1-year experience manoeuvring trailers, working in traffic and with asphalt or concrete would be considered an asset
- Applicants must be able to deal tactfully and diplomatically with the public
- Good communication and teamwork skills are necessary to carry out duties based upon oral and/or written instructions
- The ability to work independently with minimal direction within a team setting
- Physical ability and dexterity to perform physical work under changing weather conditions
- Must have a Drivers Abstract that is satisfactory to the City of Lethbridge

If you are not currently an employee of the City of Lethbridge, at the time an offer of employment is to be provided, as a condition of employment, you will be responsible for providing a copy of a five-year Commercial OR Non-Commercial Driver’s Abstract. The Driver’s Abstract must be obtained within 30 calendar days of the offer date, and the cost of obtaining the Abstract will be the responsibility of the applicant.
If you do not submit an Abstract, or the Abstract shows 6 or more demerits or includes any of the unacceptable driving record items listed below, your offer of employment may be rescinded. The City of Lethbridge reserves the right to determine what is a satisfactory Driver’s Abstract.
An unacceptable driving record includes, but is not limited to:
- A record of any suspension of Operator’s License within the preceding three years which is related to a driving offence.
- An overall driving history that reflects poor driving behavior, will be determined at the discretion of the City.
- Within the preceding three years any Criminal Code or Provincial driving conviction including:
