Transportation Manager
Transportation Routing & Safety Specialist
Helena Public Schools is seeking a highly organized, customer-focused professional to serve as our Routing & Safety Specialist. This position plays a vital role in ensuring safe, efficient, and reliable transportation services for students throughout the district. Working under the general supervision of the Transportation Manager, the Routing & Safety Specialist utilizes Edulog student transportation software to develop and maintain bus routes, verify transportation eligibility, coordinate routing information with the district's transportation contractor, and provide outstanding customer service to students, families, staff, and the community.
This position also oversees the district's student transportation discipline program, helping ensure student safety and compliance with transportation procedures.
Some responsibilities include:
- Develop, maintain, and improve district bus routes using Edulog software.
- Create, relocate, and assign bus stops and routes.
- Monitor route efficiency, stop locations, ridership, and bus capacity.
- Establish and adjust bus schedules and run times.
- Maintain accurate driver route sheets and transportation records.
- Communicate routing updates and changes with families, schools, and the transportation contractor.
- Coordinate transportation for special education programs, Trailhead, TLC, FLS, Extended Day, Summer ESY, and other district-wide educational programs.
- Support annual school startup by assigning bus stops and assisting with student registration.
- Prepare transportation reports, routing plans, and demographic projections.
- Assist with boundary planning and long-range transportation planning.
- Prepare routing information for County Superintendent approval and County Transportation Committee review.
- Other duties as assigned.
To become part of this dedicated team, you need:
- Associate's Degree (A.S.) in programming, computer science, business information technology or related field
- A minimum of two years' experience in application development or application support
- Or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience as determined by the District
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, database systems, scripting, web programming, query languages, spreadsheet manipulation, and basic software troubleshooting.
- Preferred qualifications include:
- Advanced degree in business, information technology, logistics, supply chain management or related field.
- Experience using Edulog SQL transportation, student management software (Power School) and/or GIS mapping software.
- Experience in computer networking.
- Familiarity with the greater Helena area and Lewis and Clark County.
This is a full time (1.0 FTE) 12-month per year position that will work eight hours per day between 8am 4:30pm; M-F. Entry level salary range is $22.27-$25.22 per hour DOQ/DOE as determined by the District and includes a comprehensive benefit package.
