Position: 924 - Speech Language Pathologist (for the 2026-27 school year)
Hemet Unified School District is one of the largest geographic areas of any district in California. It covers over 650 square miles of very diverse topography; from valley flatlands to foothills to mountains. It serves a growing community with a current enrollment of nearly 21,000 students. Preschool centers at nine school locations, eleven elementary schools (K-5), three elementary/ middle schools (K-8), four middle schools (6-8), four comprehensive high schools (9-12), one continuation high school (11-12), a science-based charter Middle/High School (6-12), an Adult Education Center, Independent Study Programs, a Home School Program, and a self-paced online instruction program offer a wide variety of learning opportunities for students of all ages.

Educational programs are designed to be flexible enough to provide a positive educational environment for all students, yet structured enough to ensure attainment of the California Content Standards and A-G requirements. Students also are encouraged to use whatever creative talents they possess. With the support of the community, school staffs have developed highly successful programs in music, agriculture, and athletics.

HEMET UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT SPEECH THERAPIST BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF POSITION Under the supervision of the Assistant Superintendent of Student Support Services, the Speech/Language Specialist will provide instruction for students with disorders or deviations of language, speech or hearing. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES Screens students for speech/language classes; develops and implements appropriate remedial techniques for each student as indicated on the Individualized Education Program (IEP);

consults with administrators, teachers, parents and other professional personnel concerning speech, language and hearing problems; maintains student records as required by the District and Special Education Master Plan; refers students to community agencies as appropriate; arranges and participates in School Appraisal Team (SAT) and Educational Assessment Service (EAS) as appropriate; is a resource in the area of speech/language to staff and parents;

provides inservice in the area of speech/language as appropriate and other job related duties as assigned. SKILLS/ABILITIES Knowledge of appropriate diagnostic and screening instruments in the area of speech/language; knowledge of appropriate materials to be used with specific deficiencies at the various grade levels; knowledge of equipment necessary for speech/language screening; ability to interact well with handicapped and regular students;

ability to interact with staff, parents and community agencies; familiarity with Special Education Master Plan. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Credential:
General Speech Correction and Lip Reading in Remedial Classes or General Special Secondary Credential in Correction of Speech Defects;
Standard Teaching Credential with a Specialization in elementary or secondary Speech and Hearing or Standard Teaching Credential Limited Specialization Preparation in the area of Speech and Hearing or Standard Restricted Special Education Credential in the area of Speech and Hearing Specialist or Speech and Hearing Therapy or a Specialist in Communication Handicapped or a Specialist in Clinical Rehabilitative.

Master's or higher degree, including all courses needed to meet requirements for credential. 02/02

SLP who are initally placed on Column A or Col B, Step 1 of the SLP salary schedule shall be eligible for incentive. Incentive:
Total Incentive shall not exceed $18,000 and shall be distributed in annual payments over 6 year period. Annual distribution payment shall be paid on the last pay warrant of the contracted year in the amount of $3,000
