Overview

Spectrum Center Schools and Programs, a dynamic organization devoted to offering hope, seeks an Instructional Aide to join its award-winning Special Education team. The role supports students in Grades K-12 by providing personalized support, supervision, and guidance in the classroom and community settings.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate closely with classroom teachers to create a supportive and high‑achieving learning environment where all students feel safe and valued.
  • Implement engaging, individualized instruction and behavioral interventions in on‑site and community settings, aligned with each student’s goals.
  • Instruct and monitor students during classroom lessons, ensuring instructional fidelity and applying targeted strategies for comprehension and course completion.
  • Track progress, communicate progress and needs, and work with teachers to address areas requiring additional intervention.
  • Manage student behavior, reinforce school policies, and apply consistent disciplinary measures.
  • Support students facing academic challenges, encouraging personal growth and helping them develop community, vocational, leisure, domestic, academic, and social skills.
  • Document student behaviors and performance accurately and timely, providing meaningful observations and actionable recommendations.
  • Prepare detailed behavioral reports, daily activity logs, and other necessary documentation for staff.
  • Communicate proactively and clearly with students, colleagues, supervisors, and families regarding student needs, achievements, and concerns.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of all student records.
  • Participate in assurance and accreditation activities to meet site performance standards.
  • Attend school‑wide, student‑parent, and advisory meetings to support collaborative networks.
  • Respond constructively to feedback, demonstrating ongoing professional growth.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as needed to support student success.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent, with basic skills test passage.
  • Associate degree or higher in education or related field preferred.
  • Current or ability to obtain a California state driver’s license.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain certification in a company‑approved crisis management training.
  • Current or in‑process paraprofessional, paracentral, teaching assistant, or similar credential preferred.
  • Prior experience supporting children, preferably in alternative, special education, or behavioral health settings.
  • Skills in working with children with learning disabilities, autism spectrum disorders, emotional‑behavioral disorders, or related disabilities.
  • Comfortable driving or riding with students before and/or after school.
  • Ability to think and act calmly in emergencies and make independent decisions.
  • Proficiency in motivating students and having critical conversations that move them toward realistic goals.
  • Advanced oral and written communication, organization, conflict resolution, multitasking, problem solving, and decision‑making skills.
  • Knowledge of relevant technology, including instructional technology, Microsoft Office, database entry, and basic office equipment.
