responsibilities- perform skilled street maintenance tasks, including repair, maintenance, and construction of curbs, gutters, sidewalks, streets, shoulders, pavement, and related facilities.
- remove debris from roads and pedestrian walkways; perform weed abatement and graffiti removal; assist in the installation, maintenance and inspection of city signs, road markings, striping, and delineators.
- perform concrete sidewalk, curb, gutter and ramp installation and repair; conduct temporary and permanent pothole repairs and crack sealing; remove and replace asphalt; paint curbs; install and repair guardrails and barricades; mow and abate weeds on public rights‑of‑way; spray herbicides; conduct litter removal throughout the city.
- maintain parks, landscapes and recreational facilities: mow and edge lawns; remove graffiti; clean and maintain grounds, paved areas, paths and walkways; pick up trash and litter; open, clean and maintain restrooms; install, repair and maintain irrigation systems; adjust, repair and replace timing mechanisms; install, maintain and repair playground equipment; perform landscape planting, trimming, removal and weed control; mix and apply herbicides and pesticides safely;
operate and maintain hand and power landscaping tools and equipment. - perform skilled tasks in the installation, maintenance and repair of the city’s water systems: install new water mains and service lines; shut down mains and water services for repairs; maintain and replace water lines, hydrants, valves, back‑flow devices and meters; flush hydrants and mains; perform maintenance and repair at well sites; assist in installation and repair of sewer lines.
- operate dump trucks, service trucks, vactors, jet trucks, backhoes, boom trucks, and other light and heavy duty maintenance and construction equipment; maintain and clean assigned vehicles and equipment.
- assist other public works maintenance units; perform tree trimming, graffiti removal and traffic control; respond to emergency call‑outs as assigned; provide customer service; resolve public service complaints; establish positive working relationships with community organizations, agencies, city staff and the public.
- train less experienced staff and respond to questions and concerns from the public.
- practices, techniques and materials used in maintenance, construction, mechanics and repair of streets and parks.
- operational and maintenance characteristics of standard construction and maintenance tools and equipment.

- practices, procedures and materials used in weed and pest abatement.
