Description

Reporting to the Associate Director of Student Leadership and Engagement, the Assistant Director for Fraternity and Sorority Life is responsible for supporting the mission of the office, the division of Student Enrollment, Engagement, and Success, and Hofstra University by providing support and leadership to the fraternity and sorority community. The Assistant Director will serve as a resource for chapter presidents, faculty/staff advisors, alumni, parents, national representatives, and the university community regarding fraternity and sorority life.

This is a full-time position and occasional evening and/or weekend hours may be expected as a part of the position.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Manages the esteemed position of the Fraternity and Sorority Life community by ensuring their understanding and compliance with all University policies, as well as municipal, state, and federal laws by providing the appropriate resources and training.
  • Designs and facilitates training initiatives for chapters and councils focused on leadership skills, community standards, wellness, safety, and professionalism.
  • Collaborates with campus partners, alumni advisors, and inter/national headquarters staff to promote a cohesive and supportive fraternity and sorority experience.
  • Leads efforts to enhance the visibility and engagement of Fraternity and Sorority Life through coordinated events, communication strategies, marketing initiatives, and recognition programs.
  • Collects, reviews, and analyzes membership, participation, and academic data to inform program improvements, strategic direction, and community development efforts.
  • Administers Fraternity and Sorority Life accreditation processes related to chapter recognition, events, and membership procedures.
  • Facilitates Panhellenic Formal Recruitment on an annual basis.
  • Facilitates and assesses signature programs, including but not limited to Pride Expo, National Hazing Prevention Week, Hofstra Celebrates the Holidays, and Greek Week.
  • Supervises Graduate student staff.
  • Advises Undergraduate Recognized Student Organizations as needed.
  • Supports the Division of Student Enrollment, Engagement, and Success with division-wide initiatives.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • At least one year of related experience in student affairs.
  • Ability to effectively supervise graduate and undergraduate student staff.
  • Knowledge of student development/leadership theories, as well as fraternity and sorority life, and current best practices, and the ability to apply them appropriately.
