Henderson County Government is hiring an Assistant Code Enforcement Officer to help keep our community safe, clean and compliant.
The successful candidate will work directly with public, contractor and property owners to bring property conditions and appearances into compliance with local laws and ensure construction meets code standards. This includes the Henderson County Public Nuisance Ordinance, Kentucky Residential Building Code and the Henderson County Zoning Ordinance.
What the Assistant Codes Officer Will Do- Investigate and Inspect:
Respond to reported code violations, perform on-site structure and nuisance inspections, and conduct follow-up reviews. - Enforce and Document:
Issue official notices, zoning violation letters, stop-work orders, citations and condemnations. - Represent the County:
Help prepare case files and assist in providing official testimony before the Codes Board, Board of Zoning Adjustment, and District or Circuit courts. - Review and Permit:
Evaluate building plans for code compliance, issue construction permits and inspect new building projects. - Support and Respond:
Guide the public on code requirements and respond to emergency structural damage caused by storms or vehicles. - Other duties as assigned.
- Education:
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent. - Experience:
Two (2) years of responsible construction experience (e.g., foreman) requiring plan reading, or experience in design/drafting for an architect or engineer. - Education Substitutions:
An Associate degree in a design/construction field, or a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, Fire Science, or Building Technology can substitute for the required experience.
Starting salary is $45,000 a year. Available benefits include health insurance, a 401(k) retirement plan, a deferred compensation plan, vacation, paid time off and a health savings account.
