Our program seeks candidates who are passionate about fostering success among our highly diverse student population as well as preparing educators to advocate in a similar manner for their own students.
The School of Education (SOE) is an exciting place to be. More than 1,200 undergraduate, post-baccalaureate, and graduate students are pursuing licensure programs in elementary and secondary, special education, as well as speech-language pathology and school psychology. In response to a statewide shortage of K-12 educators, speech-language pathologists and school psychologists, Nevada State has made a strong commitment to building out the SOE to include the following additional academic programs:
* Master’s Degree in Speech-Pathology
* Baccalaureate Degree in Elementary Education with Emphasis in Bilingual Education
* Baccalaureate program in Inclusive Early Childhood Education (EC/ECSE)
* Ed.S. in School Psychology
* Bachelor of Arts in Special Education with a Concentration in Autism The new School of Education building opened in the summer of 2021; in addition to being home for all SOE programs, faculty, and staff, the new facility includes an early childhood education center, a speech-language pathology clinic and a Psycho-educational Mental Health Clinic.
* Teach 24 credits per academic year, which amounts to four courses per semester.
* Teach lower- and upper-level courses in Teacher Education and Literacy in a variety of formats (e.g., in-person, hybrid, online). Approximately half of this instructional load will be dedicated to core courses in the literacy curriculum.
* Fulfill service obligations to the School of Education, Nevada State University, our local community as well as the discipline-specific professional community.
* Serve on departmental and college-wide committees.
* Engage in scholarly activity within your discipline or in the scholarship of teaching and learning.
- Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Literacy, Curriculum and Instruction, Teacher Education or a related field (Candidates who are ABD will be considered with the expectation that the Ph.D. or Ed.D. will be completed by July 31, 2026).
* Experience teaching early childhood literacy.
* Commitment to teach literacy/methods courses.
* Expertise in curriculum mapping and program development.
* Experience advising undergraduate pre-service teachers, school-university partnerships, and contributing to program assessment, and accreditation processes.
* Experience with program mapping and program development.
* Experience in web-based learning management systems (Nevada State uses Canvas) and multiple course modalities (online, hybrid, in-person).
* Experience with (or desire to teach) online, hybrid, or evening classes.
* Research expertise in early, adolescent, or disciplinary literacy.
* Detailed CV or resume listing relevant qualifications and experience;
* Letter of interest indicating why you are a good fit for the position and Nevada State University;
* Statement of Teaching Philosophy;
