- Nursing Course Assistant. The Nursing Course Assistant (CA) encompasses various support roles for the School of Nursing students like Supplemental Instruction (SI) Leaders, Tutors, Peer Mentors, Peer Coaches, and Peer Assistant Lab Specialists (PALS).
In these positions, Nursing CAs provide support in both theory and skills areas through SI sessions, providing one-on-one and group tutoring sessions, nursing skills practice, coaching, and guidance and mentorship. The position may require weekday, weekend, and evening hours as needed.
Core Responsibilities:
- Attending all lectures of the assigned classes, modeling successful learning behaviors.
- Planning, with faculty support, and running weekly supplemental instruction (SI) sessions.
- Providing one-on-one and group tutoring.
- Helping coach students toward success.
- Providing nursing skills support.
- Notifying students of upcoming workshops and events, as well as methods of support outside their specific scopes.
- Meeting regularly with the NSSC staff and provide feedback to facilitate growth of the department.
- Meeting regularly with collaborating instructor.
- Providing administrative support as needed.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be in good academic standing and maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Must be enrolled as a degree seeking student with a minimum of 6 credits in the current or upcoming semester at Nevada State.
- Must be a current pre-licensure BSN student, within the Nevada State University, School of Nursing.
- Eligibility to work in the United States without sponsorship (Nevada State does not sponsor employment-related visas).
- One or more faculty member references.
- Available for 8-10 hours weekly during the semester, and for the maximum weekly student employment (19.5 hours/week) during training and special event dates.
- Attends all required trainings every semester that will occur during the two-week period prior to the start of the new semester.
- Attends all required meetings or professional training during the week or weekends and school breaks.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience teaching, tutoring, or mentoring.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Knowledgeable of (or able to obtain information about) student-relevant dates and policies such as
-but not limited to- add/drop dates, financial aid, academic standing, chain of command, etc. - Knowledgeable of other student support services that Nevada State students can access (training will be provided to supplement existing knowledge of Nevada State resources).
Work Hours:
Anticipated number of hours per week is around 8-10, but the actual number of hours may vary up to as many as 19.5 during training and special event weeks. Maximum number of hours per week is 19.5 (including any other campus jobs).
Hourly Rate:
$16.00 per hour.
