Job Description Desired Skills and Experience

Due to continued growth within our organisation, we are seeking an Industrial Chemist to join our team at Henderson.

This is a dynamic and varied role where you will play a key part in developing, formulating, and testing materials used across subsea buoyancy, construction, mining, and processing applications. The position requires a strong focus on innovation, material performance, manufacturing optimization, and compliance, as well as effective communication and technical support for both internal teams and clients throughout each project or assignment.

The key responsibilities for the role include:

  • Develop and formulate innovative materials for new and existing product lines
  • Optimize existing formulations for performance, cost, and compliance
  • Improve and scale-up manufacturing processes from lab to industrial scale
  • Manage testing and qualification programs for new materials and raw materials
  • Provide technical support to Production, Quality, and clients, including trials and process advice
  • Write and review technical documentation: lab reports, work instructions, datasheets, and safety datasheets
  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment according to relevant standards (API, ISO, ASTM)
  • Supervise and mentor graduate or technical laboratory staff
  • Develop and maintain instrument-control software for lab and pilot-scale testing

About You

To play a part in our continued expansion and success, we are seeking someone who ideally has:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, or Chemical Engineering (MSc or equivalent industry experience highly advantageous)
  • Experience with composite, elastomeric, or polymeric materials
  • Experience in an industrial manufacturing environment and materials formulation (e.g., composites, adhesives, paints)
  • Well-developed laboratory skills and a hands-on approach
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities effectively
  • Strong problem-solving ability, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Excel and Word); basic programming skills are a plus
  • Well-developed oral and written communication skills, including experience writing technical reports
