Environmental Technician

Turner Staffing Group is currently seeking a skilled Environmental Technician for a project near Searchlight, NV. In addition to an hourly wage, the position offers transportation to and from the job location.

Schedule:

Monday – Thursday, 10+ hours a day. Hours are 3:45am–5pm, including paid travel time to and from the job site located about 30‑40 miles from Searchlight on the CA side.

Pay:
Hourly pay will be $18–$20 per hour. Travel pay is paid 1.5 times the hourly rate. Overtime is paid for any hours over 8 hours a day. Paid 1 hour lunch and rest pay.

Job Overview

General Technician Duties:

  • Operate equipment, including skid‑steer, forklift, and water truck.
  • Assist the Re‑vegetation Engineer at plant nurseries and greenhouses with tasks such as replacement of irrigation tubing, greenhouse maintenance and planting, weed removal, salvaging and transplanting new plants.
Environmental Sampling

Collect soil, water, waste, and other materials, as directed by the Environmental Engineer.

Environmental Inspection

Assist the Environmental Engineer to conduct regular inspections to check areas of compliance with company and regulatory requirements, and to identify and implement corrective measures.

Documentation

Prepare field observation notes, records, and reports related to the above.

Oversee maintenance and repairs related to environmental requirements.

Additional Duties and

Responsibilities Include:

  • General compliance‑related data entry to MS Word or Excel.
  • Operate environmental field equipment as necessary.
  • Promote awareness of environmental issues among employees.
  • Inspection and management of obligations for the protection of the desert tortoise and other protected species.
  • Assist the Environmental Engineer with hazardous waste management and inspections.
  • Conduct fieldwork to investigate the nature and extent of any accidental spills.
  • Maintain documentation for inspections, spills, and corrective actions, including environmental SOPs, policies, and forms.
  • Support sustainability initiatives, including land restoration, water conservation, reclamation, and biodiversity protection.
  • Ensure accuracy and thoroughness in all tasks and monitor work to ensure the highest quality.
  • Act in a responsible, professional, and safe manner at all times.
  • Punctuality and regular attendance required.
  • Report all environmental concerns to supervisor.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and

Experience:

Experience in the environmental, mining, or related fields is preferred.

Ability to take direction and to work as a team is required.

Working Conditions

Work is performed at an active mine site that may include open pit mining, processing facilities, leach pads, maintenance areas, and office environments. Employees may be exposed to extreme weather conditions associated with a desert climate, including high heat, cold temperatures, wind, dust, and occasional precipitation or flash flooding. Depending on the role, work areas may involve proximity to large mobile equipment, moving mechanical parts, blasting activities, noise, vibration, diesel exhaust fumes, chemicals, fuels, oils, airborne particles, or other industrial hazards typical of mining operations.

Outdoor work on uneven or rough terrain is common for many roles. Employees may encounter desert wildlife and native plant life. Required personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn as determined by job duties, task hazards, and work location. PPE includes, but is not limited to, hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, safety footwear, and other PPE as determined by job task and location.

Physical

Demands

Manual dexterity; handling and grasping; fingering and fine motor skills; speaking clearly; hearing in speech, radio, and environmental ranges; seeing, reading, and comprehension; near and distant vision; depth perception. While performing job responsibilities, employees must be able to communicate effectively and maintain situational awareness in an active mining environment. Physical activities may include standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, climbing, kneeling, crouching, or working on uneven surfaces.

Use of hands and fingers to operate tools, equipment, controls, or computer systems is required. Specific physical demand requirements will be provided during the interview process. Employees may be required to work while wearing the required PPE, including respiratory and hearing protection. These requirements are representative, but not all‑inclusive, of the knowledge, skill, and ability required of the employee.

Qualifications
  • Attention to detail, organizing skills, working in hot, cold, wet, and noisy environment.
  • HS diploma / GED.
  • Current MSHA certification (desired).
  • HAZWOPER and DOT certifications for waste inspections and disposals preferred.
