The Reliability Engineer Intern will support the Maintenance and Reliability team in improving equipment reliability, safety, and operational performance within a manufacturing environment. This role provides hands‑on experience in maintenance engineering, preventive and predictive maintenance, equipment performance analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives. The intern will work closely with reliability engineers, maintenance technicians, and operations personnel to identify opportunities for reducing downtime, increasing equipment availability, and improving overall plant productivity.
This position is designed to provide practical exposure to reliability engineering principles while developing technical, analytical, and problem‑solving skills in a real‑world industrial setting.
- Assist with the development, review, and improvement of preventive maintenance (PM) programs.
- Support predictive maintenance activities, including vibration analysis, thermography, lubrication, and condition‑monitoring programs.
- Analyze equipment downtime, maintenance, and production data to identify reliability improvement opportunities.
- Participate in equipment failure investigations and Root Cause Analysis (RCA) activities.
- Assist in tracking corrective actions and validating the effectiveness of implemented solutions.
- Support continuous improvement projects focused on reliability, safety, productivity, and maintenance efficiency.
- Help develop maintenance procedures, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and technical documentation.
- Assist with spare parts assessments, inventory optimization, and parts standardization efforts.
- Generate reports, KPIs, and dashboards to monitor equipment performance and maintenance effectiveness.
- Collaborate with maintenance, engineering, and operations teams to troubleshoot equipment issues.
- Participate in safety initiatives, audits, and equipment improvement projects.
- Support project engineering activities, equipment upgrades, and facility improvements.
- Maintain accurate records within the SAP PM module.
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
- Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Interest in maintenance, reliability, manufacturing, or industrial operations.
- Previous manufacturing, maintenance, or internship experience is a plus.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
- Basic understanding of mechanical systems and manufacturing processes.
- Familiarity with preventive and predictive maintenance concepts.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
- Ability to analyze technical data and identify trends.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Self motivated with a willingness to learn and take initiative.
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, TPM, Six Sigma, or Continuous Improvement methodologies is a plus.
- Exposure to Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA).
- Hands on experience with predictive maintenance technologies and reliability tools.
- Experience working in a fast paced manufacturing environment.
