As a Senior Associate of Province’s Assignment for the Benefit of Creditors (“ABC”) practice, you will serve as the day-to-day project manager for ABC engagements in which Province and its affiliates act as assignee and estate fiduciary. You will lead all aspects of estate administration, from pre-assignment planning and asset preservation through asset disposition, claims reconciliation, tax compliance, creditor distributions, and estate closure, with minimal supervision.
The role requires strong client management skills, sound business judgment, capacity to oversee multiple projects simultaneously, and the proven ability to direct internal team members, external personnel, and professionals across projects (including counsel, tax advisors, brokers, auctioneers, claims and noticing agents). Your expertise in understanding assignment agreements, sale documents, and insolvency processes will be essential in ensuring compliance with the estate’s obligations and maximizing recoveries to creditors.
- Serve as the day-to-day project lead for multiple ABC engagements and project teams, developing work plans, budgets, and timelines from pre-assignment diligence through final distribution and estate closure.
- Manage multiple concurrent estates, tracking deadlines, deliverables, and engagement economics while keeping senior leadership and clients informed of status and key decisions.
- Direct the administration of assigned estates, including asset identification and preservation, cash management, insurance, books and records, and the orderly wind-down of business operations.
- Oversee the marketing and disposition of estate assets, including going-concern and orderly liquidation sales, coordinating with counsel, brokers, and auctioneers to maximize value for creditors.
- Oversee the claims process, including the intake, review, and reconciliation of proofs of claim (including tax and wage/priority claims), claim objections, and negotiated resolutions with counsel.
- Design and execute distributions to estate creditors consistent with statutory priorities and the terms of the assignment, supported by recovery and waterfall analyses.
- Manage the preparation of estate financial reporting, budget-to-actual analyses, and periodic status reports to creditors and other stakeholders.
- Collaborate with tax professionals on estate tax filings, payroll and trust fund obligations, and the resolution of state and federal tax liabilities, including abatement requests, to limit the risk of liens, fines, and penalties.
- Serve as a primary point of contact for assignors, creditors, purchasers, and their advisors; respond to creditor inquiries and manage sensitive communications with professionalism and discretion.
- Support practice development, including pitches, proposals, and referral relationships with attorneys, lenders, venture capital, and other sources of ABC engagements.
- Manage, train, and develop internal associates and analysts, delegating and reviewing work streams and providing constructive feedback.
- Direct external professionals (counsel, tax advisors, brokers, claims and noticing agents, and field personnel), managing scope, budgets, and performance across engagements.
- Perform other tasks or duties as assigned by management.
- 5+ years of professional work experience.
- 3+ years’ experience in corporate restructuring, investment banking, special situations, fiduciary services, bankruptcy estate administration, or relevant legal or financial positions.
- Working knowledge of ABC statutes and procedures and related insolvency frameworks (chapters 7 and 11 of the US Bankruptcy Code, receiverships, and UCC Article 9 dispositions, etc.) strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated client management experience and sound business judgment in fiduciary or advisory settings.
- A solid academic background from a reputable undergraduate/graduate program; JD, CPA, or CIRA (Certified Insolvency and Restructuring Advisor) designation is a plus.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint; proficient with financial/data analytics and claims management databases.
