The Operations Supervisor is responsible for supervising, labor management, and planning of inbound, outbound, product slotting, and customer communication activities daily. The role includes labor scheduling, space utilization, equipment and manpower management, hiring and training, performance appraisal, issue resolution, and strategic operations planning under the direction of the Operations Manager or Distribution Center Manager. The Supervisor ensures compliance with company service and cost objectives, maintains quality, safety standards, and supports continuous improvement initiatives.
Responsibilities- Conduct staff meetings to review daily/weekly work activities, plan, and assure continuous improvement.
- Keep senior management and client representatives informed of critical operational issues.
- Develop and enforce systems and procedures for safe and profitable operations in accordance with company policies.
- Implement and report ongoing cost‑saving initiatives; propose efficiencies.
- Meet all client‑specified KPI’s and comply with quality system requirements.
- Apply communication and motivational techniques, supervise, counsel, and discipline team members fairly and equitably.
- Provide direction and support to Human Resources; assist in hiring, training, and professional development.
- Participate in performance evaluation, recommend promotions, wage increases, and other HR activities.
- Hold overall training and evaluation responsibilities for warehouse staff.
- Plan daily work schedules, prioritize tasks based on time sensitivity and resource availability.
- Review pending jobs or trends, reorganize warehouse space, adjust staffing or supplies as needed.
- Train new staff or delegate training to experienced team members; assess trainee progress.
- Maintain awareness of job quantity and quality, providing guidance and advice as necessary.
- Assign supervisory duties to experienced leads for lower‑level staff; monitor progress and problems.
- Advises Manager of progress or problems requiring attention daily; holds regular meetings with staff to assess status and discuss improvement ideas.
- Assist with physical operations as needed.
- Deliver results by leveraging the skills of the right people at the right time.
- Maintain high motivation levels, focusing on customer satisfaction.
- Provide ongoing growth and development opportunities for team members.
- Conduct annual performance reviews and give input.
- Support adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for corporate and client compliance.
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or GED.
- 3 years of experience in logistics/distribution or a related environment.
- 1 year supervisory experience.
- Preferred: MHE certification or basic MHE operation knowledge.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations or Designations
- Satisfactory completion of a forklift training program.
Computer Skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Experience with RF scanners.
- Working knowledge of WMS functions.
Language Skills
- English – reading, writing, and verbal communication.
- Business communication proficiency.
Mathematical Skills
- Basic to intermediate level for verifying product quantities, inventory counts, and related tasks.
Other Skills
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and timely task completion.
- Excellent organizational and personnel skills.
- Good communication – written and oral.
