To fabricate metal electrodes and prefabs from various sized, grades and shapes of scrap titanium. Also fabricates electrodes using sponge compacts.

Tools & Equipment

Plasma arc and wire welding equipment, weld chamber, vacuum pumps, material handling equipment, work savers, cranes, hoists, forklifts, straddle truck, jigs, various hand and power tools, flowmeters, scalp coiler, chamber controls, conveyors, etc.

Job Functions
  • Select scrap to be welded using lot identification number provided.
  • Properly align scrap in jig to provide density and strength to specification.
  • Weld scrap using required welding equipment to obtain a finished weld that is to proper specification.
  • Inspects and cleans welds to remove contaminants.
  • Identifies finished electrode by stamping on required information.
  • Selects stubs and wafers ensuring that matched grade is used.
  • Weighs electrodes and records weight on proper forms.
  • Notifies foreman of any improper grades found in lots which have been color coded.
  • Uses material handling equipment such as cranes, forklifts, straddle truck and worksaver.
  • Transports billets, fabricated electrodes or portions thereof to Melt Shop.
  • Loads, unloads, cleans, adjusts and inspects wire weld units.
  • Keeps equipment and working area in clean and orderly condition.
  • Uses drawings to build prefabs, primary and double melt sticks.
  • Welds stubs to electrodes and repairs broken electrodes.
  • Welds head wafers to stubs.
  • Rejects bad pieces.
  • Welds compacts and double melt stubs to wafers.
  • Makes minor repairs and adjustments to equipment.
  • Fabricates complete electrode by operating weld line and weld chamber controls and rod weld units utilizing manual control as required.
  • Completes records as required.
  • Operates powered conveyors, materials handling equipment, cranes, hoists, etc., in transporting recycle mill material, sponge ends, stubs, compacts and fabricated electrodes.
  • Inspects vacuum pumps. Changes oil in pumps and cleans screens as needed.
  • Hand wraps alloys in foil for addition to electrodes.

Candidates without welding experience will not be considered.
