POSITION SUMMARY:

The Lead Community Engagement Specialist drives the vision and implementation of resident engagement, coordination of community-building activities, and cultivation of partnerships that enhance the quality of life for residents in a permanent supportive housing community. This senior role provides strategic leadership for community engagement initiatives, leads activity coordination efforts, mentors engagement staff, and ensures programming aligns with organizational goals and resident needs.

The Lead Community Engagement Specialist champions inclusive community practices and fosters an environment in which residents feel empowered, supported, and connected to internal services and external resources.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Provide leadership and direction for the community engagement function, including planning, execution, and evaluation of engagement strategies and resident programming.
  • Mentor, train, and supervise community engagement staff and volunteers, ensuring high-quality support for residents.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to align engagement activities with organizational priorities and supportive housing best practices.
  • Develop and monitor engagement goals, metrics, and outcomes, preparing reports for leadership and funders.
  • Lead efforts to build meaningful relationships with residents, fostering a community atmosphere of trust, inclusion, and respect.
  • Serve as a primary liaison between residents, property leadership, and community partners.
  • Facilitate resident feedback mechanisms—surveys, focus groups, town halls—to inform programming and services.
  • Oversee and coordinate a diverse calendar of resident activities, including social, educational, wellness, cultural, and life-skills programming.
  • Ensure activities are responsive to resident interests, culturally inclusive, and trauma informed.
  • Support staff with logistics, evaluation, and documentation of resident participation and impact.
  • Innovate and expand activity offerings based on best practices and resident feedback.
  • Build and sustain partnerships with community service providers, nonprofits, schools, health providers, and local stakeholders to expand opportunities and resources for residents.
  • Represent the housing complex at community meetings, outreach events, and collaborative networks.
  • Coordinate referrals and facilitate introductions between residents and supportive services.
  • Oversee development and distribution of communications related to engagement activities, including newsletters, calendars, and announcements.
  • Maintain accurate records of engagement efforts, event participation, partnerships, and outcomes.
  • Use data and resident feedback to improve programming and share impact with leadership and funders.
  • Advocate for resident interests within organizational planning and policy discussions.
  • Connect residents to internal and external resources that address barriers to stability and well-being.
  • Provide guidance and support to encourage resident participation and leadership.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION and/or

EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Community Development, Human Services, Public Administration, or related field required preferred
  • 2+ years of experience in community engagement, resident services, or supportive housing settings, including leadership or supervisory experience.
