The City of Henderson announces an examination to create an eligibility list and to fill one (1) vacancy for the classification of Utility Service person I in the Department of Utility Services. The eligibility list may be utilized to fill vacancies for this classification for up to six (6) months or up to one (1) year, depending on employment status.

Under general supervision, performs semi‑skilled and manual labor tasks associated with the construction, installation, maintenance and repair of the City's water and reclaimed water distribution systems, and wastewater collection systems; performs related duties as required.

- Thursday, 6:00 a.m.

- 4:00 p.m. or Tuesday
- Friday, 6:00 a.m.

- 4:00 p.m.

Note to Current Employees
  • Pursuant to the Teamsters collective bargaining agreement, full‑time non‑probationary employees successfully completing the assessment process will be placed on an eligibility list to be used to fill vacancies in this classification for up to six (6) months.
  • Probationary full‑time, part‑time, temporary employees, and external candidates who successfully complete the testing process will be placed on separate list(s), which may be used to fill vacancies for up to one (1) year. If the vacancy is not filled by full‑time non‑probationary employees, the separate list(s) may be utilized.

External candidates, probationary full‑time, part‑time, and temporary City of Henderson employees will start at the first step of the salary range, if selected.

Qualifications
  • Graduation from high school or the equivalent.
  • Two (2) years of experience performing installation, maintenance or repair of utility infrastructure, typically greater than six (6) inches in size, directly related to waterworks distribution and/or wastewater collection system.
  • Note:

    An equivalent combination of related education, experience, and training may be considered.
  • Employee must possess a Competent Person certificate or obtain such certificate within one (1) year of appointment.
  • Employee must possess a State of Nevada Water Distribution Operator Grade I certificate within eighteen (18) months of appointment.
  • Employee must possess and maintain a valid Nevada or “border state” driver’s license, as defined by NRS 483, and maintain a satisfactory driving record.
  • All required licenses and certificates, as mandated by state and federal laws or as required herein, must be obtained (unless specifically stated otherwise) and maintained at employee's expense.
  • Employee may be expected to obtain training in proper use of full‑face air‑purifying respirator.
  • Desirable:
    Possession of a State of Nevada Water Distribution Operator Grade II and Collection Grade II certificates.

  • Performance Examination (Weighted 50%) – Wednesday, August 19, 2026 (Best‑Qualified Candidates)
  • Structured Selection Interview (Weighted 50%) – Tuesday, August 25, 2026 (Candidates Passing Performance Examination Only)
