About

The Role

The L1 Field Engineer delivers field-based installation, maintenance and smart hands support across Indigo's customer environments. Working under the guidance of senior engineers and operational teams, the role supports infrastructure deployments, network maintenance, fault resolution and customer service activities while maintaining high standards of safety, quality and professionalism.

The role is primarily home-based, with the majority of time spent working at customer sites. The work is reactive and varied, with flexibility required to work across changing customer environments and locations. Out-of-hours on-call cover is also required as part of an agreed rota.

What You'll Do
  • Provide installation, maintenance and smart hands support across Indigo's customer environments.
  • Respond to assigned faults and service requests, ensuring activities are completed within agreed SLAs and KPIs.
  • Install, rack, stack, cable, label and test telecoms and network infrastructure to required standards.
  • Install and maintain fibre optic, copper and power cabling, including fibre cleaning, inspection and testing.
  • Support installation activities involving equipment grounding, power cabling and associated infrastructure in accordance with applicable standards.
  • Support network upgrades, migrations, planned maintenance and commissioning activities.
  • Perform fault finding and troubleshooting of network, transmission and server hardware.
  • Provide smart hands support including console access, equipment reboots, physical connectivity and hardware checks.
  • Support cage builds, rack builds, audits and infrastructure deployment projects.
  • Coordinate and oversee third-party contractors working within customer sites and POP environments where required.
  • Produce accurate documentation, test records and job reports within agreed timescales.
  • Liaise with customers, colleagues and third-party contractors to ensure successful delivery of field activities.
  • Comply with company and local standards, procedures and protocols, maintaining high standards of Health & Safety, engineering quality and professional conduct.
  • Demonstrate flexibility to meet changing business requirements and undertake other duties as required.
About You What We're Looking For
  • Experience installing and maintaining telecoms, network or data centre infrastructure within customer premises environments.
  • Hands-on experience with rack and stack, structured cabling and fibre optic installations.
  • Experience testing, cleaning and troubleshooting fibre optic infrastructure, using appropriate test equipment such as LSPM.
  • Practical experience within telecoms and transmission environments, with an understanding of IP networking fundamentals.
  • Experience using test equipment for installation, commissioning and fault-finding activities, with demonstrable hands-on experience of installation, network build and testing.
  • Working knowledge of Cisco, Juniper or similar networking equipment, including experience providing remote console connections and basic troubleshooting.
  • Experience supporting upgrades, migrations and maintenance activities within customer environments.
  • Experience working within POP and data centre environments.
  • Working knowledge of Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality requirements.
  • Strong customer service, communication and documentation skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365.
  • Full, valid US driving licence.
  • Ability to participate in a 24/7 on-call rota and travel as required.
Desirable
  • Knowledge of optical transmission technologies and telecoms network architectures.
  • Experience with fibre testing equipment such as OTDR or LSPM.
  • Understanding of OSP and IP networking principles.
  • Relevant industry certifications or technical qualifications.
