EC Program Specialist
Reports to:
Ex. Director of Exceptional Children
Supervises: N/A
Term of Employment: 12 months
Salary:
Based on experience and educational attainment
Qualifications:
North Carolina Special Education Licensure with five years of Classroom Teaching Experience;
Master's degree in education-related field preferred
Essential Job Functions:
- Attends IEP meetings as requested by schools and can act as the LEA representative on IEP teams when needed
- Provides curriculum support to EC staff when the issues are greater/more disability related than what is expected of staff in other curriculum areas
- Organizes staff development and in-service training for academic areas related to EC as well as behavior/classroom management
- Provides coordination for the alternate assessments utilized for students with significant disabilities
- Maintains availability for support to the school as needed
- Represents the department and the district in local, regional, and state meetings
- Provides data collection and assessment of that data for both academic and behavioral support initiatives
- Provides guidance, coaching, and support for Direct Instruction programs
- Guides IEP teams for development of functional behavioral assessments and behavior intervention plans for individual students Serves as a consultant to exceptional education teachers in the development of Individualized Education Plans
- Assists in the interpretation of testing data and in the development and delivery or professional development to support the initial placement process, re-evaluation and manifestation process, as well as EC procedures and compliance in accordance with Policies Governing Services for Children with Disabilities
- Conducts in-house audits of EC records to ensure compliance with NC policies as stated in Policies Governing Services for Children with Disabilities
- Assists as a resource to school level EC Professional Learning Communities
- Provides parents and family support to students with disabilities
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Read, comprehend, and prepare various kinds of communication and information including emails, correspondence, reports, articles, spreadsheets, staff development plans, educational forms and data
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; ability to communicate well with school personnel, employees, and central office staff.
- Ability to provide leadership and to supervise the planning, development and establishment of new, modified or improved special education programs, services and activities.
- Demonstrate functional knowledge of computers and all aspects of the Microsoft Office Professional software programs.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by work assignment.
- Comply with confidentiality requirements in local, state and federal policies and statutes.
Physical Requirements:
- This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 10 pounds of force
- Work regularly requires sitting, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger motions
- Work occasionally requires standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, etc.
- Work has standard vision requirements
- Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken work; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels
