Summary
The Clinical Nursing Assistant is responsible for coordinating and delivering patient care utilizing the nursing process under the direction of a Registered Nurse in a hospital setting.
Responsibilities- Assist physicians and other health care providers with routine examinations and procedures, as well as procurement of equipment and supplies during emergency situations.
- Observe, collect, and document patient information obtained while providing care and promptly report significant changes in the patient's condition to a registered nurse or physician.
- Assist patients and their families during admission to the clinical area, orientation to the hospital/clinic/home health experience, and discharge.
- Provide care/treatments to patients as outlined in the plan of care including, but not limited to:
- Monitoring of vital signs
- Measurement of height and weight
- Specimen collection
- Skin preps/scrubs such as chlorohexidine (CHG) bathing
- Catheter care
- Capillary blood glucose checks
- Simple wound care
- Range‑of‑motion exercises
- Drain care
- Assist patients with routine activities of daily living (ADL) such as bathing, dressing, feeding and assisting with ambulation as outlined in plan of care
- Maintain an effective clinical work environment, including cleaning the work area, changing linens, maintaining and monitoring supply levels, and transporting patients/specimens throughout the hospital.
- Ensure competency in all required skills and complete competency assessments annually per the documented competency checklist, adhere to documented policies and processes, and perform other related duties as assigned.
- Must have nursing assistant certification, such as Nurse Aide I registration administered by the North Carolina Board of Nursing (NCBON).
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
