Staff Accountant

Job Description

SHR Talent is partnering with a client in Nashville, TN in its search for a Staff Accountant for a high growth company. The Staff Accountant will report to the Senior Accountants and will be responsible for performing the accounting functions for the company and providing monthly operating information. The Staff Accountant role is a great opportunity to develop skills in an active, collaborative, and growing environment with daily exposure to senior leadership.

To be successful in this role as the Staff Accountant, you should possess strong problem-solving skills with an ability to offer alternative solutions to each problem as well as strong technical accounting knowledge and the ability to research technical accounting matters and manipulate data to drive and expedite project analyses and completion.

An ideal candidate for the Staff Accountant role will possess strong communication skills, be detail-oriented, have the ability to work independently in a geographically separated, cross-functional, fast-paced team environment, proven collaboration skills, works with a sense of urgency, and can prioritize action items.

Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with the accounting team, ensuring proper accounting, revenue recognition, and reporting are conducted
• Oversee and manage the month-end close process
• Collaborate with Financial Planning & Analysis to produce monthly operating reports
• Ensure financial records are maintained in accordance with U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
• Prepare and review ad-hoc internal and external financial reporting and analysis
• Coordinate external audits
• Coordinate timely preparation and review of month-end balance sheet reconciliations, consolidation activities, and financial reporting
• Develop, document, implement, and maintain accounting policies and procedures
• Research complex accounting issues and document technical accounting position papers
• Identify areas of process improvement, recommend changes, and execute improvements

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting
• Master’s degree, preferred
• Active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license or working toward Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license, required
• 0 – 4 + years of accounting experience
• Proven knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB), Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB), and Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) regulations
• Strong knowledge of internal controls, best practices, and the ability to research and document accounting and financial topics, required
• Strong Microsoft Excel skills
• Working knowledge of Workday or other Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) platforms, a plus
• Healthcare experience, preferred but not required
