Position Overview

We are seeking our next Part‑Time Paraprofessional Tutor – Mathematics – Hereford Academic Success Center who will provide academic support to students through individual and small‑group tutoring sessions both inside and outside the classroom.

Responsibilities
  • Provide individual and small‑group tutoring to students in mathematics and related subject areas.
  • Utilize positive reinforcement techniques to encourage, motivate, and build student confidence.
  • Assist students in developing effective study habits, note‑taking techniques, time management skills, and test‑taking strategies.
  • Reinforce course concepts and provide supplemental instruction aligned with faculty expectations and course outcomes.
  • Create and maintain a productive, welcoming, and student‑focused tutoring environment.
  • Develop, organize, and utilize tutoring materials, resources, and learning activities to support student success.
  • Support the daily operations of the Hereford Academic Success Center during scheduled business hours.
  • Communicate with faculty regarding student progress, tutoring participation, and identified academic support needs.
  • Participate in embedded tutoring opportunities and remain current with course content and instructional expectations.
  • Build positive and professional relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members to support student retention and success.
  • Participate in training, meetings, and performance evaluations as assigned.
  • Perform other work‑related duties as required.

Qualifications
  • Knowledge of effective tutoring techniques, learning strategies, and student support practices.
  • Ability to explain mathematical concepts clearly and adapt instruction to meet diverse learning needs.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive, professional relationships with students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and protect sensitive student information in accordance with College policies and the Tutor Confidentiality Agreement.
  • Ability to complete work accurately, ethically, and in a timely manner in accordance with the Tutor Code of Conduct.
  • Ability to participate in required training and professional development activities.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively as a member of a team.
  • Commitment to providing excellent customer service and creating a welcoming environment for all students.
  • Ability to comply with all College, state, and local policies, procedures, rules, and regulations and to properly safeguard College property, equipment, and materials.
Education Requirements
  • Required: Completion of a freshman‑level college mathematics course with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Preferred: Completion of sophomore‑level college coursework, including two (2) or more mathematics courses, with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
Experience Requirements
  • Required: Completion of at least six (6) college credit hours.
  • Preferred: Previous tutoring, mentoring, peer coaching, or instructional support experience in high school or college‑level courses.
Salary

Pay grade 6. Starting offers typically between the minimum and midpoint of the pay grade, rarely reaching the maximum, to support long‑term growth within each position. Salary is determined by Human Resources based on education, work experience, and internal comparisons.

Physical Demands

May occasionally be required to lift, carry, push, pull, or move office supplies, instructional materials, and other equipment up to twenty‑five (25) pounds as needed.

Work Conditions

This a part‑time position budgeted for a maximum of nineteen (19) hours per week. Work schedules may vary based on student demand and Academic Success Center operating hours.

Work Environment

This position operates in a professional educational and office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment, including computers, phones, copiers, printers, and related technology.
