The Plant Fitter is a full‑time, on‑site role based in Hereford, responsible for maintaining, repairing, and refurbishing a variety of plant and construction equipment. Day‑to‑day tasks include diagnosing mechanical and hydraulic faults, carrying out routine servicing, and performing repairs to ensure machines are safe, reliable, and ready for resale. The role involves inspecting equipment received into the yard, identifying required parts and work, and completing refurbishments to agreed standards and timelines.
The Plant Fitter will collaborate with sales and spares teams to order components, provide technical input on equipment condition, and support customer queries when needed. Keeping accurate maintenance records, following health and safety procedures, and maintaining a clean and organized work area are essential aspects of the position.
- Strong mechanical fitting skills, ideally with experience on plant, construction, or agricultural machinery.
- Ability to diagnose and repair faults on engines, hydraulics, transmissions, and electrical systems.
- Familiarity with routine servicing, preventative maintenance, and safe use of workshop tools and equipment.
- Good problem‑solving abilities and attention to detail when inspecting and refurbishing machinery.
- Effective communication skills to work with sales, spares, and management teams, and to explain technical issues clearly.
- Capability to work independently, manage time efficiently, and follow health and safety guidelines at all times.
- Relevant vocational qualification or apprenticeship in mechanical engineering, plant maintenance, or a related field is beneficial.
- Previous experience in a plant hire, equipment sales, construction, or similar environment is an advantage.
